ask madkaw about scraping fairings.

but i don't see how scraping a fairing would unload the front end enough to make it lowside, fairings do have a fair bit of flex in them. i would think rolling the throttle on would unload it more.

Fairings.?? I wore through those and was onto engine covers... :?

I will say though, I only scraped the engine covers when correcting or changing lines in a corner.
The fastest way around the track was NOT to scrape them... !

Was that on the 250? And if so, at any particular track in the calendar??

I scraped the fairings on the 7 once. Hell I even scraped the bar end and the front fairing and ducktail all at once. Got my shoulder down when I did it too.

Getting the bike out of the mud wasn't so easy though......

You too Hemi, damn it must be something abut 7s.
I tried to see how far mine would lean over at Darlington, the answer is until you run out of tyre of course, nice low side that pirouetted into the kitty litter.
In the series of photos this came from it is as Smitty said he is not on the throttle but runs in very quick and out slow (well this time anyway).
I DO think that putting all that weight on the wing WOULD/DOES unload the front the same as your knee but there would be NO feeling what-so-ever or chance to "catch it" on your knee. It might also explain why the front wasnt so scuffed up.
He doesnt so much scrape them as grind them.

I thought the subject was "Scapping the wings" not "Scraping the wings"...

As in I thought you were thinking about removing them from the fairings....

I was thinking that it would probably make the bike look quite different....

...I have had a better look at the pic before this one (will post later) and I am embaressed/proud to find that my wing wasnt that far off the deck either.
I was right in that your knee hits first, the peg after and at that point the wings are almost on the deck too....

Just never took much notice before.....
