Kishy strips should be measured in mm, and anything over 10 is not good

i got a new rear last weekend (not the one just finishing) and had taken the bike all of 80km to and from to work (and it frickin RAINED on the way home from work that time too!), then took it up the putty this weekend, took it rather east (flogged it getting to the putty, m4 at about $1.40 average, up to $1.80 at some points .

Then took it along the putty, at the first stop halfway to the halfway house *boom*boom* i had the sides down to about an inch and a bit. by the end of the run my left was down to about 6mm and about 8mm on the right. With the new fork oil on the gpx, probably one of the best runs i've done on this bike, ever :) :) :)

Yeah Mina, mate c'mon you dont want me too mention what pressures you were found running do you ?.

If you can. Wipe any new tyre down to remove the mould release agent with some thinners/acetone & a rag. A decent bike tyre Fitter will do this anyway.
Still be carefull for the first 100ks & I usually head for a coupla quiet roundabouts over an overpass & slowly tip it in until they are scrubbed in.

If you run Bridgestones, dunlops, Michelins, Pirellis or Metzlers you won't have to use acetone of tyre buffing compounds to remove the mould release agent, because NONE of them use a mould release agent. It's a falicy of 40 years ago Ponti! :)

You notice I didn't make comment about your amazing shinkos Brett, as I have not checked their data.

I've got a favourite set of corners that I head out to that are nice and open with a good surface and constant radius, get the tyres nice and warm by running back and forth through them, and just slowly work my way out to as close to the edge as I feel comfortable. Five or six passes and I've got nicely scrubbed tyres and I'm going through the corners at my normal speed. 8)

I havn't had a dry ride since I put these new Qualifiers on, so can't say I have had them waaaaaay over yet. But truthfully I couldn't care less if I had chicken strips 4inches wide really........As long as I'm having fun I couldn't give two hoots WTF the tyres look like!!!!

Maybe not Mould release agent, That's what i was told :?: I do know they certainly feel less slimy after a wipe down with Acetone.

So what gives then ?.

There has to be some chemical/coating to remove or process that is undertaken to get them to better operating conditions.
To be honest the less of this done with me on the bike the Better

For the back anyway, you can do a "burnout" in a pile of stone chip/gravel works like sandpaper, SO now the back has grip the front doesnt
At least you only have to clean the front one now.
Confused about whats on new tyres myself.
Have always just gone careful, I mean what happens when you have scuffed it in and 6 weeks down the track you use that bit on the edge you didnt up til then? Somewhat similar to running over a white line?
I have had new Michi let go but the new 14 I took for a ride had new Bridgies on it and they gripped from the get go....
One of the tyre fitters here used to buff them but people got upset
The way to look at kishys (if you have them) is "Look at all the lean I have in reserve for when I need it"
OF course having it and using it is two different things, bit like my 12 really
Just because you CAN ride, doesn't mean you SHOULD
