I thinks you should always leave it in gear and foot on the right brake.
One day you will have half a second to react and pull away from a madman that forgot to brake behind you and you will thank yourself.
Mind you, It is better to have mirrors that you can see out of and behind you to see this madman closing in, which seems to be rare on bikes today.

How expensive are clutch plates anyway, they are cheaper than brake pads??

and start it up again to take off.

hes taking the piss...if u do that, u have to wait for the bike to fire before u can moe away from the lights...this may get u run over??

im with TY...i put it in nuetral once the car behind me has stopped, or if im lane splitting & safe from being run over...

I just use the eney meemy miny mo method to decide which foot to put down. You gotta be quickthough, or you'll end up lying on your side and that is embarrasing

But seriously, I just put both feet down, it feels better.

I would only every put it in neutral at the lights once the car behind me had pulled up - ie once I knew they'd seen me and weren't going to rear-end me.
Wear never came into it for me - it was just opportunity to relax

when i did my L's/P's years ago they called it the "ready" position
and they do it for exactly the reasons Ty says. you ensure that the vehicle behind you is actually going to stop before relaxing.

being in the "ready" position makes it quicker to get away if you see something bad about to happen.
