theres a mob in albury called "proven suspension" who sell directly (they have a cattledog online) or via ebay using "proven_suspension" as the seller name (and a SHITLOAD cheaper if you find what you want)

e.g. i found a pair of shocks i wanted from them, was gonna cost $550, then found they had near the same thing going for about $120ish, cost me $140 delivered. Done the same thing again with the gpx, cost 119 plus $15 postage for something that'd be a lot more otherwise.

And see the improvement (i know from when Dave (madkaw) just tinkered with mine) how much better it was, couldnt imagine how much better aftermarket specialist parts would be for it.

Plenty of other brands. Perhaps send a email back to them ask them what brands are more afforable and are good quality. (if they dont stock other brands, go somewhere else)

they've got a WP shock for $1050 but only has preload and rebound adjustments. do i really need a compression adjustment????

try ring promecha in springvale (i think) and see if they can rebuild the stock rear shock to a higher spec, set up for your weight?


as for mods, i would recommend a timing advancer rotor... rrp is ~$125 ... gives the bike a lot more 'snap' and makes it a whole lot more fun... might only show an extra 1 or 2 peak HP on the dyno, but madkaw can vouch for their usefulness on the track mick hone suzuki should have them in stock, they are a factory pro distributor... i think brighton K might have them too

grab a K&N or BMC filter while your at it (worth ringing vicwreckers, they usually have a big stack of after market filters for a bout $40) then a jetkit (ivans or factory pro) ... then some tuning... get the air filter and timing advancer on before the tuning, and make sure the tuner knows how to tune for a bike with air filter and advancer mods - there are many morons out there.


if money is tight, i would recommend getting the bits from the US of A, jetkits are about US$100-110 over there while they are AU$240 here likewise advancer rotors are about US$40-50 compared to AU$125 here

Vin, go the suspension setup, all the power in the world is now good if you cant control it! if you got limited funds like me and you wanna go fast(er) like me give Peter a call at Promecha (03 9574 1184) he has my bike at the moment, l'm getting new springs in the front, 20SSRK RACE CARTRIDGE KIT to improve the front end, Rear is geting a revalve and service, along with a new spring to suit my weight....all fitted and set up with on going setup for around the $1300 dollar mark....

mate in all honesty the bike is pushing 12 years and u got it cheap. Trade it (or sell it privately and make some cash on it) in when u've got the pennies and get a new one.

is it purely for track riding? check out the formula-extreme classifieds, buy a track bike thats ready to go with slicks and a damper and supension mods for like 3-4k .... you could get more than that for your 9 (assuming its not as rashed as mine!) and buy a posty with the change for road riding

I agree with everything said except for the air filter............believe it or not hte K&N air filter has 20% less surface area than the standard, that's why the race teams stick with the standard filter, but with 1 minor modification and that is to remove the wire meshing from the top of the filter and then wire the filter medium into place so it can't move about

i can vouch for the mesh removal mod

maybe BMC filters are better tho?

i could picture a BMC or K&N filter having similar flow rates to the stock item with the mesh removed, but being much better at stopping dirt getting into the engine... the K&N and BMC being cotton, the stock being foam

I would say keep an eye on formula extreme clasifieds for a shokie as well and find out from one of the local shops what will fit like a ohlins doesnt have to be out of a 9r it could also come out of a simaler vintage 6r or 7r so this will give you options ( have to ask someone that knows what length eye to eye).
Would throw the shocky t in the bin theres no point in throwing good money at a stock one

Steering head bearings springs and a revalve at the front and it wont come back feeling like the same bike.

I havnt ridden a lot of 9rs well only one really and it felt like a boat to me there wasnt much feedback going on ( sorry 9r owners) I am sure someone can fix this for you.

Mind you when you are finished you will still have a 95 9R but if you are then happy with the way it goes around corners you can go looking for extra power.

Get one of the guys to check out the steering head bearings , my experiance with these is they can make a huge diference if things arent feeling right and there cheapish to fix.
