ZX2R Fuel tank

Postby v8-vh » Tue Apr 18, 2006 2:53 am

HELP!, its giving me the shits and im doing damage!, I dont have the keys for the fuel tank, I have undone the bolts, and tried prying the whole thing out with screwdrivers, but its almost bending the bloody things! I dont want to use any more force than that, does it have to be unlocked to remove it?
I dont know how much it would cost to get a key made up for it? would it be better to just head to a wrecker and try a key?
I just want to put some damn petrol in it, the pepsi bottle trick is getting a bit old :P

and does anyone know if you can buy those tamper proof bolts for the ignition? i took them out to get it started, but my mate recently bought the same bike, and his key fits the ignition but not the fuel tank
Im almost tempted to find out where he stacked the thing and go hunting for keys !!

Also, a quick one, what on earth is the difference between a ZX2R, and a ZXR250? is it just 2 different ways of saying its a 250? my fairing says ZX2R, but the compliance plate says zxr250 C...
My first thoughts are like, different options? e.g, SL/SLE commodore?

any help would be greatly appreciated, I just get the shits and walk back over to the only thing I know how to fix, my reason for wanting a bike (stroked 308 VH :) )

mate i once got a key cut for my zx6r and it cost me $10..but i had a replica...
take it to a locky and see what they are gunna charge ya maybe??

as for the naming of ur bike...the frame is the truth...fairings can be re-painted..

basically they started out as a zxr250 (like the 750 was a zxr750, but then became a zx7r) and later became a zx2r...by a different name, the zx2r and zxr250 are the same beast, different models have different exact designations, but ur frame would be the true one...

mate buy yourself a 3mm drill and drill out the lock, drill 3 holes in a line then insert flat head screwdriver and twist.

pins break, lock opens.

worked for my 03 track bike!

I’m thinking I might take the entire fuel tank and get the key cut,
I was talking to a bloke and he said the ignition has the tumbler thingies on both sides, while the fuel tank and seat only have them on one, so if i got a key cut for the tank, it wouldn’t work on the ignition anyway,

my mates key does my ignition so Ill copy that, would mitre 10 or someone do that at their key cutting section ?
the locksmith here has disappeared.

you'll prolly have to go to a locksmith mate the little kiosk type locksmiths just don't have the range of blanks that the shops do.

firstly,
very wierd that you don't have a key for starters.
second, very wierd that a key will fit ignition but not tank, mine was the same key.
third, good luck finding someone that'll have a blank for it, i bust the key in the pillion seat release and couldn't get a replacement.
fourth, you have a zxr250.
importers started calling em ZX2Rs to make it a more attractive sale. i.e it's suddenly just like a ZX7R only smaller. total bullshit.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

reminds me of the old joke,

how do you know a politician (or salesman( is lying?
