tyre pressure for the track?

hello

just a quick question about correct tyre pressure to use when riding on the track

I got a pirreli diablo 180/55/17 on the rear and battlax bt019 120/70/17 on the front

reccomended pressures are 42 rear and 36 front

what should i run them at on the track?

last time i just dropped them about 2 psi each and it seemed ok but i have no clue so i thought i should ask so i can get the most out of it

Do be careful with mixing those front and rear tyres dude, some people in here take a dim view of it :lol: :lol: :lol:

I have no direct experience with the tyres you are talking about. Some tyres require lower pressure than others to get them to work.

A certain race tyre I run has to be run as low as 26psi to get it to work, where others must have as much as 32 in them.

If a 2psi drop worked for you last time, then I would stick with that. The lower you run them, the quicker they will come in. But also the faster they will drop off in performance on the other side.

As a guide a 5-7 psi increase from cold to hot pressure is about ideal.

Yeah i wouldnt normally mix them but i split the rear in the nasho and had to take it to the nearest store to get it fixed/replaced.

I was limited with choices so i paid out my ass for the pirrelli cause he said it was the best he had.

i will probably replace the front soon with a matching pirelli cause i like the rear so far.

There're not Mixed .... they both are 17's :wink: . You'll be right champ I run a couple pound less front n rear at the track to 30F 32R but my tyres are mixed having an 18' rear.

If you are only going to do short legs of say 5-6 laps, you want them set pretty *soft* if you are going to build up heat quickly (got any tyre warmers ?) - I *think* you need to drop a bit more than 2psi, but these things are always determined by *what suits you best*.

Recommended pressures ? start with 32 fr, and 36 rr, and take it from there........if you are doing longer legs of say 12-15 laps, then a bit more pressure at the start would be a good idea......

i will go with 33/30 but it depends on the tyre and the rider you just have to try it out and see what works for you.

Could save a lot of time and go a whole lot faster and go and get a set of secondhand slicks from somewhere for 100 bucks and get them fitted at the track, I used road tyres for the track for a long time but once you get the slicks on the whole thing picks up 150%.

Slicks where designed for racing and road tyres are designed for the road. :D

ohh i put 29/27 cold into a dunlop slick and dont use warmers cause i live in Qld.
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

I used to run between 28-32 in the rear Diablo that came with the old 7 when I bought it. Same in the front. I would go 32 at first, it will feel different. But high 30s and above sure sounds like too much pressure to me. I have run slicks as low as 26 and know people who have gone lower, but now I just go with around 30 and look more to the hot pressure to tell me what is going on. Not that I ever know what is going on.

i run 28 f/r on my power's when i track it....grips ok...

i use to run 32f/34 rear but i had so much rear wheel spin i dropped it a tad more, found i loved it, and became more confident...

I used to run 30/30 at EC on the ZX9 with Metzeler Rennsports. Used to work well. I got the concept from Pat Galvin (Metzeler Distributor) who knew shitloads more about tyres then me.

I should add I'm by no means the fastest bloke out there but would usually wobble around in the front half of the medium groups.
It's really all about standing around drinking Dave's beer.
