99 zx7r - noises

Postby Duane » Fri Feb 17, 2006 7:26 am

I've had two noises on the 7 since i bought it,
One was a rattling noise, which im more than confident that it's the key ring- which only happens under accelloration (and goes away when your not throttling it)

And this one puzzles me. If you put your ears near the air intakes at the front its like somethings loose, like a rattle but really deep, like somethings bouncing up and down in there - is that normal ???

Other than that - I ignore all other noises as its a kawasaki

zxr's and zx7's have an induction noise similar to what you said. you will hear this if you give it a rev in neutral with your ear down to the air intake. it's hard to say without hearing but i wouldn't worry about it. The other rattle may be the little flap on the fuel cap. It took me months to find it and i thought there was something wrong with my top end.

yep could well be induction noise...

if there are resonators on the intake pipes, pull em off and shake any stones or dead bugs out... mine collects them at an alarming rate

May sound stupid, but stranger things have happened, take the resonators out, tip them upside down and see if anything comes out. U may have a small rock or something like that (big enough to pass through the grills on the intake holes in the fairing) that may have bounced up and passed through the grill and lodged in the resonators :) Failing that go see a doctor ?! :P

Mate,
PM Ment...from what I recall he had a ZX7r and a bolt came loose or was left loose or some such and ended up in the motor causing much heartache and Hatred for a local dealer.
Might be worth checking out to avoid any chance of something similar.
