ZX6R, ZX10R, ZX14R, Ninja 1000 etc

ZX9R sprockets

Just wanting any feed back on zx9`s setups for sprockets. What brands are better, what size chain etc........
Im thinking of going 14 front 43 back.

:shock: :shock: :shock: considering stock is 16-41 that is a pretty big change. correct me if i'm wrong but that would be equal to putting about 8 :shock: :shock: teeth on the rear.

may also have some issues with a front sprocket that small

Thats why im asking for some feed back phil. I was only going to drop the front sprocket by one and not worry bout the rear. But I ve been getting told to get a bigger rear by two or three as well as the front. Ive never done both. Maybe I miss understood and they only meant to change the rear??

i'd start with 1 down on the front OR 3 up on the back, personally i like it stock....seems to come up ok :wink:

i'm sure damon has the 15 tooth front.

14 tooth front is too tight a radius for the chain and will cause problems with the chain fouling on the guide.
Put a 15 tooth front on and you'll wonder why Kawasaki didn't do it from the start

what sort of revs does that do at 100 & 120 in top ?

sorry the grid doesnt line up but u get the idea 2.56 is standard so to explain 2.56 rotations of the front sprocket =1 rotation of the rear wheel so the higher the ratio the worse the fuel economy the lower the better fuel economy etc etc. To do the job properly you should look at the torque / horse power out puts other wise you will have to change gears like a smoker to keep it in the range also the type of riding you hiway/track commuting do hope this helps

I went 15 - 40 which was down one front & rear.
Makes second a little lower which suits me for the 35k corners.
I believe its the same as going UP 2 on the rear. Put my speedo UP @ 3%.

dropped a tooth

I dropped a tooth on the front of my ZX9 . Didn't think it changed much . I raced at Willow Bank and only got a 10.96 with a normal take off i couldn't get a good top speed i think i got up to about 214 k/h but had a good 60 footer .

i wouldnt wanna change mine too much, but im keen for slightly shorter gears...

im thinking up two on the rear, maybe down one on the front if its much cheaper

stock mine sits on about 4300rpm at 100kph... would be up around 4500rpm at 100 with two up on the rear or just under 4600 with one down at the front

i went one down on the front and i really have to wonder why it wasn't built like that.
i got more punch and more top speed cos it had more balls to get up there.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

1 down on the front and whack a 55 on the rear.

whats the chance of being able to fit a +2 rear sprocket under my existing chain? its stretched a little, but is +2 gonna be too big? :P
