TRD_Supra wrote:i just cleaned it with kero then and wow the bike has some bling bling now!!! as for lube i just went along each side of the chain and oiled her up, aswell as went along the eyelets with oil!! top and bottom sides of the chain!

but the thing is..does oil actually lube the chain and penetrate the o/x rings??
does it stick to the rubber??

i know oil is great for lubing metal..but wot abt chains? i use to take my moto x chain off & soak it in oil..but it was a non o/x ring chain (less chance of sand etc getting caught in it & rooting sprockets)...

neway..i use a lube, and im proud of it!!

i just bought some of that castrol motorbike chain oil, so one would assume it would penetrate the rings, plus i tried to look as closely as possible and it looked like the oil had soaked well within the cavities!

so many people are coming up with different ideas on wat they think is good and wat isn't, alot say the castrol stuff i use is good enough, others say spend at least $50 on a lube(no thats a lie i made it up, but something along those lines!!!)

I saw the motul lube cause alot of people mentioned it, is there 1 sort of lube for your chain which everyone agrees on being good ?

Mate, pick a lube and stick with it, dont mix and match them, and if you wanna change lubes, give your chain a clean first, other than that, unless your using wd40 or that old tube of ky in the bathroom cupboard, you'll be fine.

Just remember always put the lube on after a ride (so the chain is hot) whack it on, walk away and forget about it :)

LOL KY !!!! hahah good one mate!!!

i am inexperienced with chain lubes so i need ot know a good one, that isn't too messy, lubes the chain and preserves the chain and isn't over priced i don't mind spending upto $20 or so on a good lube maybe higher depending how good it is!

hehehe, any will do mate, $20 bucks for a big bottle will be fine, i use the one in the gold can (cant remember the name of it, but it sprays out like a bronze color, and costs about that)

Alternatively, the teflon shell stuff is good as well (just make sure it goes on when the chain is hot)

i wouldnt ride around the block with no lube on it, clean it, lube it a little bit (not as much as normal) take it for a slow ride (otherwise crap will go all over your wheel) for about 5 minutes.. bring it back and lube it properly.

get chain WAX!!!

any of that other shit is useless.. and flings off as soon as u ride out the drive way and covers your bike in shit .. best way to do it is clean your chain .. take the bike for a 5 min blat, then come back and lube it up with chain WAX and it should stick like shit to a blanket and no more dirty rims!

seriously dont be a fanboy over chain oil, just use what ever you have, a $50 product is not always measurably better than a $15 product.

that said, i used to love belrays wax, which seemed to last longer than the motul oily stuff i had, but still was lucky to get a weeks worth of riding out of it.

but i get more like 2 or 3 weeks riding with the chainsaw bar oil im using now. dont have to retension the chain as often either.

sounds like wax is the way to go, i ahve seen it in can form, wat sort of consitancy is the wax ? whever someone says wax i think candle wax! lol now that i think of that i think of someone getting a candle and rubbing the chain with it!!
also when people clean it and take it for a ride, do they mean clean it, put a bit of oil on then ride it ? or just ride it without oil ?

Ohh the wax is clear stuff, once you go to canned lube theres foamy stuff/gell its all designed to lube the chain and stay on there so there all sticky.

If you pull a oring chain apart between the links theres grease and the orings are to keep the grease in ad the lube you spray on is suposed to lube the orings so the grease stays in and stop your chain from rusting.

Thats why theres a bit of a debate between kero and a brush being the recomended cleaning method because its gentler than the spray degreaser and a garden hose method.

most of these lubes they recomend you use on a warmed up chain like go for a ride for a bit then apply or just do it every time when you come home, I found with the wax i used to do it for a few rides and then there was enough on there for 1000kms or so till i had to clean it again and start over.
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?
