Dunlops

OK ok - yes I've heard people bagging Dunlops in general, but there's a possibility I can get Dunlops at cost price so I'm after some serious discussion about people's real experiences.
Note really after what people heard from a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend

I'm not having much luck finding info on them on the web either - http://www.dunloptyres.com.au doesn't list their motorcycle tyres. So I'm not sure if the D208 I've heard bagged is the only really suitable tyre, or if they have more of a range to choose from.

If I can get cheap tyres then commuting again is possible. I don't know yet exactly what cost price is, but I'll be finding out soon so I can compare prices with Shinko's.

Any thought's/experience's welcome, but please keep it serious and on topic - despite the audience I'd like some reasoned feedback

I had a pair of 207 RR's on my bike when i bought it (which you cant get anymore)

Didnt think much of them (even though the guy at PS said they're ten times better than the 208 RR).

Found they took a while to warm up
And i didnt think much of the feel they provided

May i add - I'm not a professional racer, Do not have any qualifications in tyres and whatever else i need to say so this thread doesnt turn into shinko's and madfab ranting

I had 207's and 208's on my zx6r and now have Michelin pilot powers
and its like chalk and cheese. I didn't know how shit the Dunlops were
and just thought thats as good as it gets .The Michelins now show me
how crap the dunlops were . I dont know how fast or slow they wear
but I wont buy Dunlops again for this bike

We'll i've had Dunlops for the last 2 tyre changes on the 9 and will be going back again, Sure they don't give as much feed back before they let go as Michelins but then how many people can ride that hard on the road?

Or maybe it's just that i'm slow??

I've only just changed from the standard Dunlops (218's I think) on the 10 to the Pilot Powers and I much prefer the Pilot Powers, not that I had any moments on the Dunlops but the Powers certainly don't look as messy after a decent run.

A good point was made by Madkaw when I was talking to him re tyres a while back, that being really there are no "bad" tyres these days and that I'm comparing my Dunlops at the end of their lives to a brand new set of Powers. I'm tipping anything probably would have felt better than the shagged Dunlops.

I think if you can get them for a really good price then they're probably the go. Chuck one set on and see what you think.

Does anyone know where the different models are listed though? Need to look at what type I should think about trying first - 208's, 218's, etc.

208 is the model they produced after the 207 came to a end

they're like the bt014's or the powers etc

they also come in RR - which is sticky sticky

I use to run 207's and 207rr's when they were new a few years ago. They were a good tyre and all the newer ones I'd guess are better.
The new qualifier is supposed to be pretty good, dunno if its available here yet.
If your doing a lot of K's I'd look at the 208, if you want something stickier then go the 208 rr..

I had a couple of sets of 207s on my first zx6r, I thought they were ok, wore reasonably well, usually about 5000k of weekend riding a set.

You might find the new 208s suit the 9 one person has said but not so good for other bikes ? I had pilot sports on the aprilia and hated them, but they were fitted to the 636 from new and seemed ok ?

If you can get them cheap, give 'em a go.

just remember....they dont call em DUNGplops for nothing........

i think for your usage the 208 will wear out to quickly on the rear.

perhaps a 208 front and a sportsmax touring on the back.

For Budget tyres, surely you'd have to try a pair of Shinko 005's. Scotty's Dad, Ken has them on his 9r & he seems to do Ok "Trying" to keep up with Scotty I would want a pair of Racetech's if i was riding with scotty often. Bugger the cost

I commute every day and have Dunlop 220s. I got em cheap(ish) $380 for the pair fitted. I've done about 15,000k and the rear is about worn out now. I find the profile is a bit flatter than the full on sports tyres, which isn't so good for hooning, but I still keep a reasonable pace.

I prefered the grip/feel/conficence from the old Michelins ME1s but didn't get as good wear rate out of them. Am getting the same again for the next set as they're cheap, last well and haven't let go on me yet.

I had a 207 on my 9 when I got it, and it was *OK* (no where near as good as a BT14), but when it started to go (about 80% worn) it went out with a bang ... it was OK one day, and absolutely farked the next, no grip, sliding everywhere, farked, farked, farked
