Hey Guys,
Decided to rebuild the shock on the ZZR. Can't afford the $$ for an Ohlins right now. Any recommendations for the rebuild ?

Thanks in advance,
Mick :)

it's a sticky with links to suspension people

I had the front shocks revalved on my bike, the rear ones revalved and a new rear shock put in by suspension improvements.

He's not cheap but really knows his stuff. I had a guy ride my bike a week ago who's been riding forever and brilliant to boot (redroo - gos and greenmeanie can back me on this one), he made a one click adjustment to the front for me, and he says it's one of the best set up bikes he's ever ridden! He absolutely loved it :D

It's planted, stable and goes through corners like it's on rails

I second that...

Steve rebuilt the front end of my ER5 with new springs and gold valves - it is a very different animal now. I don't know that I'd say he wasn't cheap, as that is relative, but it was definately a fair price and if you get in touch with some of those other guys in that sticky you'll find that they all pretty much charge the same and will recommend pretty much the same course of action...well, depends what you tell them you want of course.

But yes, he does have a fair idea what to do with bike suspension 8)

felix you might have to check that he used goldvalves probably charged you for some though.

I keep a eye on the people i pay to do work for me and although i asked for goldvalves i infact spotted reported showas going in mine  work okay all the same.
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

How to check?

I'm not pulling anything apart...works good either way, and I am pretty sure my receipt says gold valves...He seems like a straight shooter...haven't heard anything bad about him...unless you have a story you'd like to share??

Cheers,
Mick :)

Errr...for the fronts? Yeah, I paid about $650...new springs, gold valves, some cleaning up of forks...dunno how much a rear should cost...but on a modern sports bike probably more than the $290 it cost me for my pair of Hagons on the rear

A rebuild is suss by all accounts if the shock has done a lot of miles. I've been speaking to Steve up there too and I think I'll go with the Wilbers that has the Hi/Lo speed adjustment. Get the forks done at the same time, new springs and valves. All up about $2000 but it will be like having a new bike by all reports. I guess it all depends on the condition of your ZZR, how long you expect to keep it and where you intend to ride it. I want to go see all the twisties down the east coast so I want the best.

BTW! Has anyone any experience with the WILBERS SHOCKS ?? They used to be called technoflex

Thats a fair few bucks to spend on the old girl frank, the advantage of those high speed lowspeed compression shocks is you can get a nice firm feel out of them without having any harsh banging going on you can tune the harshness out of them with a screwdriver real easy.

How much does he want for the wilbures shockie compared to trying to ebay a ohlins say anything new with oil in it is going to feel way better than a 10 year old shockie.

Didnt neilp pay 1000 bucks for a rear ohlins landed? was that in aud or us dollars? the ohlins unit would be a better thing longer term and allready sprung to your weight leaving steve the front to do which wouldnt be more than 600bucks.

Cant work out suspension guys that want to revalve first and fix the springs later all i can think is if the springs worked out they missed out on a oppertunity to sell ya some valves.

I agree - a lot of money but if you plan on keeping it fair nuff.
