as for lifespan, 30,000km or even 50,000km is nothing.... the thing is that most people just dont rack up that many kms on a bike, so the only real problem with high k's is resale... but if you bought it with high-ish k's then its not a problem
but if its a 96-97 model with 50,000km then thats LOW for a 10 year old bike IMO... but the motor would still have plenty left in it... any sports bike is capable of well over 100,000km .... much higher than that and a fresh set of rings and a hone of the bore is a good idea and not too expencive either... but thats some pretty serious k's to put on a bike
