ZX7R and ZX6R

ok...................... i mean how much difference is that extra 100cc make in the zx7r? is it harder to handle? because i'm in the market looking for a 600cc bike..........and some ZX7Rs come across cheaper than the 6ers, hm.........any pros and cons about 750cc bikes? worth getting it? and from the offical kawa website, it seems like that don't make it anymore?

i own the 6 and have ridden a 7, but at that time it wasn't the best, so I'll leave it the people who know ..
But the seating positions are definetly chalk and cheese.. my back would kill me all day on a 7.

Supposedly the 7's have more power, but are heavier.... so... apparently they end up around about the same because the 7s have it in a straight line, but the 6s have it around the twisties...

they are completely different bikes... at least from about 96-2002 they were... the ZX6R was almost a sports tourer, same sorta ergo's as the 9R or a CBR600F

7R was a lot sportier in riding position, and definately quite a bit heavier

from 2003 the 6R was a lot sportier, probably still comfier than a 7R ... the 7R basically was never updated from when it came out in 96 or so, where the 6R was constantly evolving... there wouldnt be much at all in terms of accelleration between a 03 onwards 636cc EFI ZX6R compared to a 96+ 7R... it would have a little over the earlier 6R's, but at the same time isnt anywhere near as friendly a bike

I have brakes now . New pads & fluid make the world of difference!

Only ridden a 636 a couple of times....feels like a toy compared to the 7!
I have access to a nice black 636....just need to steal the keys when she isn't looking.

All i can say is test ride both as a 7 is totally different to any 6.......yeah it is heavier, solid as a rock front end, different ride position(lower more stretched out position).

Comes back to how you ride....obviously not as powerful as the modern day 1000 cc bikes but if you ride them in a "spirited" fashion can hold their own .

Best value bang 4 $ IMHO!

They are pretty similar overall but start from different points of view.
Main differences are Stabile & robust vs user friendly & nimbleness.
Power to weight is pretty similar in the end. I would take the 7r if i was going to be running hard all day with mates out in the boonies & the 6r for anything else including trackdays.

As stated above every thing changed with the 03/04 6r, it was definately made for the racetrack as the 7 originally was.

Try both mate, it will come down to seating position & which one you prefer the looks of imho.

i saw a review on the 7R once, the way it was put was that most sportsbikes are race replicas where the 7R is a racebike with lights.

its heavier, but steady as a ROCK. front end feels like you've got your fingertips on the road rear sticks like shit to a blanket and it doesn't do anything that you dont tell it to do. but it IS heavy and not that much more up on the power.

its a feel thing, people that like the 7 love the 7. those that dont get other bikes

And forever miss out on one of the greatest bikes ever built.

Do not let the weight scare you off, it is hard to notice until you are really pushing the thing. I personally would take the 7 over any pre-injected 6R, but up against an 03-on model 6R at a track the later model bike will be faster. But not much!

7s are way cool....

well...........from my "financial" point of view the 7Rs are way more affordable than the 2003 onwards' 6Rs, and they look great too, but if i had to get a 600cc it's got be a 2003 onwards zx6r not the ones before 2003 as they don't look as good as the 7Rs

if so how many k can a good condition zx7r do? i'm a bit reluctent to buy anything bike regardless of the engine capcity if it's over 30,000kms, am i wrong?

i bought mine with 37,000 and its solid as a rock. sportsbike motors are much tuffer than you think, and the majority of riders look after their bikes better than they do their own children i'd be suprised if a well maintained motor clapped out before 100,000 unless its being raced i guess. but considering how highly strung these motors are, they really are VERY reliable, even a little 250 inline 4 thats spent most of its life over 15,000 rpm still has a good chance of hitting 100,000. 50,000 should still see plenty of life in a bike if its been looked after

here here, don't get a seven to commute with, thats what my zzr600 was for but on rostered days off if i had the money for tyres, my now departed zx7r was my weapon of choice on SEQ back roads. I road it from Brisvegas to PI and back and it gave me no trouble comfort wise. She was heavy but it gave me heaps of confidence in the corners.
As far as power goes the reality is for the average punter on the road you can only use so much. Power to weight figures or total power output is for marketing men to sell modern sports bikes (and cafe wankers to bragg over). Its how you use what you've got and what makes you comfortable (confident) to enjoy the ride is more important.
