Engine Oil

Postby wazza1234 » Sun Jan 01, 2006 4:12 pm

What oil (brand, types etc) do you guys use on your bikes? I know what is good in 2 strokes but 4 stroke bikes I am not exactly cluey on. Looking at my bike manual (gpx250) it has quite a lot of suitable oils...what to use!!???!!

On my GPX250 and Tones FJR1300 we use Motorex, Fully Synth 15w50 or 10w 50

I have used Motorex and now Putoline in my 7 both semi-synthetic. No need for full synthetic in something like a gpx250.

Yep Motul 5100.
Find as it gets close to the 3000 km mark gear changes get a bit average.
But if you change your oil evey 3 thou all should be sweet

i lurrrrve motul 5100, but it is a big exxy...

only reason i occasionally splash out on motul 5100 is that it makes the gear shifts so so sweet cause of the esther additives... and it smells nice  otherwise motul 3000+ i think it is.... is fine... its a mineral based oil but still has esther in it, and its about 15-20 bucks cheaper than 5100

that said, oils are oils... even safeway oil is good, as its SG rated, and the service manual for my 9R says anything SG rated is fine

well you can use whatever you feel like

Kawasaki spec IIRC SE which is the cheapest out there

BTH which IK and i both know had a jap import GPX with 40K on the clock when he got it , Used the cheap $10 for 4 litres valvoline stuff

changed every 3K and filter every 6K

it got to 130K before it got low on compression after a lot of commuting and a trip around aus

Mobil Super XHP car oil in everything (cars included) except ZZR12- use Shell SX4 semi-synth in that. GPX engine is older design- not as oil fussy as later engines....just change regularly with the filter... :)
2 X ZRX1200R 4 X ER6N, GT550, 1988 ZX-10, 4 X GPZ250R, 4 X GPZ900R and GPZ750R :) Yeah I like Kawasakis.
