No, it wont be ridden on the street till i ge my P's in july, but i got the cash so i dont want to wait.

still deciding on what to get though.

the point i was making is the bikes power isnt the problem...u dont need a turbo..my bike would easily do a low 10 if it wasnt for the fact its trying to buck me off...

stick a turbo on a zx6r (05 model) and ur not gunna run a 10sec..ur gunna run a 15min...the time it takes the ambo to pick u up off the road, and ur mates to strap ur flipped bike on a trailer.....

i appreciate what ya saying, but i see alot of turbo bikes that arent throwing people off them. comes to set up.
If i get to turbo or NOS stage id set up the bike accordingly.
Anyway, time will tell what i get and how i go.

If you've got the cash, stick it in a six-month term deposit. When the time comes to buy, you'll have earned enough interest for a flash helmet and, possibly, riding boots and gloves.

What's the point of the bike sitting in your garage, rego wasting away, if you're not going to be able to ride it on the street?

still deciding on what to get though.

If you're really planning on chucking on exhausts, NOS and what will you at it, my suggestion would be to mosie on down to the auctions and pick up a ZX9 that's been bounced off the side of a taxi for a couple of grand. Get it serviceable, learn how to drag it, then feed in mods as you get better.

Spending 15 grand on a brand-new bike, only to immediately pull it to bits and chuck on another five grand in drag mods (that's about what you're looking at for a decent pipe and NOS kit, installed in a manner in which it'll do more than just shorten engine life) so you can start dragging is, frankly, a misguided waste of money.

Well, there's that. There's also the possibility that all the people running lowered, stretched 500hp Hayabusas have worked up to that stage.

Between the fuel consumption and general cantankerousness of something that highly tuned and modified, riding one on the street would probably prove, ummm, annoying.

i agree with I-K ...
does a P plater really want to put NOS/ turbo on a 120hp 600cc bike weighing 160kg just to drag race it once a week ??..then muck around pulling it apart so he can ride it on the road....??
how much riding experience u got AJ??

i cant see a P plater with little experience, riding the throttle of a ..say 150hp bike at the drags...hell i almost flipped mine (12.6 sec pass at 109MPH on one wheel) ....
sorry for not seeming to encourage u...i just dont wanna see another youngen go down in a cloud of sparks....

oh and im more than willing to put my cbr up against ur turbo/nos zx6r (similar power id imagine??) and see if u can prove me wrong :D

i never back down from a challenge....

i managed a best of 10.79 on my 9R (with pipe, filter etc) but was more than a little pissed when my brother ran a 10.6 on his '03 636!!!! and it was standard!!!

That's a damn good 03 636 to run that!

It would need better than a 1.8 60 ft time & probably run 130mph.

My best 60 ft time is a 1.89 & 7.04@106.8mph over 1/8 mile on my 03 636 & it has a Akra Slip on & PCIII with Micron Map.

Im not going to judge AJ, I've done some dodgy things. I'm still alive.
The point about experience levels is valid.. ride the bike before you install the nitrous.
I will say only one thing: Ya know your going to ride it on the road before you get your full licence  Be aware of the risks.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone..

Thanks for the comments, pretty much decided what im doing.

02 R1 or 03 GSXR1000, stretched, lowered etc, get used to it at the strip then add horsepower till happy.

As for riding gear, ive got all that, so sont need cash for that. And to start the bike will only be used at the track, still keeping my ninja for street duties.

Let ya know how i go.

If you're gonna do drag racing you're doing the right thing . I've got a turbo 9 and it's a real shit down the quater. if it isn't spinning it's trying to flip. You'll get better times with an extended swingarm on a stock bike. In my opinion it's all in the launch.
Bikes make the world go round.

Interesting that the ZX9R can crack into the 9's and the Z1000 with a detuned but bigger version of the same runs 11's perhaps high 10's.

So what does someone who doesn't even have their P plates need a 9-second ZX6R for?

would love to see a near stock 9R run a 9 second pass here in australia... with a human rider too, not one of those drag racing robots that all the american magazines have working for them

z1000s are quite a bit de-tuned, cams, crank, heads. about 20-30HP down...
not sure what a zx9 weighs, but the Zed weights 208 according to the book. :)
