I got Busted by the law

Postby MrStompy » Thu Dec 22, 2005 9:39 am

got a ticket this morning on the bike.

Not for speeding, Not for wheelies or anything interesting like that......

Got a ticket for turning right when the sign said i couldnt at that time
ie no right turn 6:30 - 9 am off coonabarra road onto the pacific highway at wahronga

$175 and 2 points :(

What i reckon is funny is that they say "do you realise that its no right turn at that intersection?"
and you say "no" of course and they write you a ticket anyway.

whats the point in asking questions where there is no answer that will change the outcome?

Has anyone ever given an answer to a cop that changed their mind?

I dont really care. its annoying and a waste of money but sh!t happens.

I have

Postby R3Dknight » Thu Dec 22, 2005 10:21 am

I was in my VC commodore  on the gold coast highway heading to the coast (when it was 2 lanes) very late for an exam.

I was in the left lane and had a slow ass car in front of me and a cop car on my right. I had the option of being even later for my exam or.... be sneeky and speed up and squeeze thru between the cop car and the slow ass.

I did this narrowly missing the cop and (i knew i had a 50/50 chance to get pulled over) and kept driving and yep got pulled over. One of them got out (the one with not stipes on his shoulder but pointy STARS!) said i was driving eraticaly and got his book out, I started to explain i was very late for my final exam for my WHOLE subject and if i dont get down there soon I will fail and be without a job  .

He put his book away and said be more carefull and next time do not leave so late to give you more time.

My wife got fined for the same offence at the same intersection about six months ago.

I got pulled up by a cop near my old house on my GSXR1100 going around a big circuit each way at what "sounded" like stupid speeds.

A cop pulled me up, asked what I was doing and I said doing a lap each way so I could scrub my tyres in a bit (I said this thinking I was already screwed so what the hell). He said stop being a dick and go home and didn't fine me.

Similar story, a mate got breathalysed after too many lemonades one night, cop asked him if he had anything to drink and he said "shitloads, I'm screwed, don't bother testing me just take me back to the station for the test". The cop asked him where he lived (which was close by) said thanks for your honesty now piss of and get home.
It's really all about standing around drinking Dave's beer.

Got boked for neg driving on night on the way home from a friends place,
It was about 1am and raining, so I was having a bit of fun in the XR8 off every set of red lights I could. The last set I looked at the car next to me a plain white au falcon so I had a BIG go (1st 2nd the drive ) then all of a sudden there was blue lights everywere. Pulled over got out of the car & the cop said to me Thought you'd be a lot younger. I replied I was just reliving my miss spent youth. He had a giggle said because I had a good attitude to the whole thing he only book me for neg rather than doing a burnout, which I could have my car impounded.
So not a bad result, well it could have been worse.

A friend, who does server for the THEM, and rides told me this...
"The first thing we do when we pull-over or approach someone is give them the personality test".

Now this means they will ask you a a question like "where were you going in such a hurry". If you fire them a barrage of verbal assault you should consider yourself "failed" of said personality test.

If you pass the test it can, and almost certainly will, affect the outcome of the situation. Hence why you hear stories about cops going leniant with drivers/riders who are honest, amusing etc.

I for one have been fortunate enough to meet a HWP officer who appreciated my sense of humour. A bit of a joke straight of the bat and good driving history (up to that point) got me a get-out-of-gaol-free card.
The Doc says my blood is green. Thankfully, there is nothing he can do to help :)

"do you realise that its no right turn at that intersection?"
and you say "no"

I was thinking about this today and in future instead of saying "no i didnt realise" and acting dumb Im gonna say - "yeah i did it deliberately"
just to see what they say :)

anyway gotta put the bike away now for a couple weeks till these double demerits are over...

Perhaps you're better off making an "oh stupid me" comment rather than taking the piss out of the copper? :)

Something like "Sorry, just a bit of brain fade. I actually come through here a few times a week but not normally at this time of day so I just looked to see if it was clear and went through" would probably work better than being a smartarse.

That said though I'm always rude or a smartarse so I've never gotten out of a thing.

I'm a bit like that, you need to be careful though. My standard line is something like "I'd risk another fine to tell you what I really think, but I figure you already know what I and every other member of the public think of you blokes with ticket books" and then drop something to thank the officer for "saving" me or adding to "little Johnny's stash"

:)

mate i have had all sorts of responses from copper with hand on revolver for noisey muffler to sit down over there and dont move cause i was way bigger than the coppers trying to book me....must say the zero tolerance methods they have adopted of late are interesting though.

Once they have the book out they dont put it back in my experiance and have been booked for all manor of things including but not limited too bald tyre...yes it had tread, no not much and how can ya tell without a gauge to measure such things up a dark street in the middle of the night with a torch was close to the tread bars but i reckon there was a bit left.

and turning right at a no right turn sign at 2am on a empty 4 lane road was sitting in a brown xe falcon at the time....dont try this at 8am though.

nearly forgot the proceding thru a amber light one

and sundry others i didnt have the time to go to court over....just got to love asertivness training. :D

shame they dont do common sence training at times.

Yes it does, GOD BLESS HIS DEVINE SOUL..........HE HAD THIS AURA, I'M SURE HE WAS AN ANGEL FROM ABOVE.

actually got pulled into the police station car park, & when one said motorcycle cop showed me the detected speed on the back of the radar as i took off my helmet my response was "holy shit m8, i had no idea i was goin any where near that fast" I had cracked it open to get past 3 cars b4 the lanes merged, the first car blowing more smoke than a coal driven power plant, so i didn't want 2 get stuck behind him. I am genuinely shitting meself at this moment as i was in a 60 zone, & he could ask me 2 place my hands behind my back & take me for a little walk inside the police station if he wanted to
pulled out the licence, explain i was trying to get past the stink bomb,...."you ride a bike m8, the safest place to be is out in front in your own space" yada yada yada, go over to his bike & comment that he has no chicken strip on the back tyre, we get talking about the club, track days, advanced riding courses & stuff i've done, he comments that its good that i've got full leathers , boots , gloves etc.
anyway I mustn't have been going that fast, because he wrote the ticket up for 16kph over the limit. :prayer: thank you :prayer: thank you :prayer: thank you :prayer: Divine intervention...Halleluiah
