Having a couple of beers this arvo listening to "The Radiators", I wish I was 17 again.....
I thought to myself, whatever happened to the "Lucky Country". 30 years ago we worked 40 hour weeks in 5 days, except for the unfortunate few that had to do overtime on Thursday night or Saturday morning, oh... and the "wogs" (Greeks and Italians) that we eventually educated to our way of life. We had an abundance of spare time for family and friends. Now we come home after a long shift, just to organise our shit for work again the next day. Everyone seems to be working 60 or 80 hours a week over 7 days..........
Also Councils were flushed with money, they owned their own Tips (waste recycling centres for Gen Y) their own Garbage Trucks, which carried 3 or 4 workers, they had their own latest model Tractors, Graders, Mowers, Excavators, Bobcats and other Plant and equipment. They had Parks and Gardens depts, Maintenance depts, etc, etc, not to mention more staff than they had shovels to lean on. And Council rates were relatively affordable, considering the number of rate payers on their quarter acre blocks. Nowadays Councils don't own anything, their areas have doubled in population with the dog box blocks people are forced to buy, and they keep putting the rates up saying they are struggling to maintain their area on the rates they receive..... It just doesn't add up to me..... What happened....
Rant over.....
