welcome to KSRC, home of the goody two shoes.

The guy was not doing anything stupid, he said that, i said that.. what part of it didn't you understand?? he was passing a car.. and only people who have NEVER ever gone over the speed limit to do that has the right to pass comment on him. And if you have done it, what right do you have to pass judgement? yes he should have been more careful in a possible patrolled area but shit happens.
This thread reeks of judge and jury, and most of you have never ridden with him or met him, how do you know what he rides like? He was telling US not to speed through towns ffs.

Mrs Duane, ever been booked? no? not even in a car?

RANT over ..

He doesn't drink and ride like some people i know, and he doesn't ride at warp speed like other people I know. Give the guy a break will ya!!

And if and if anyone wants to know i've been booked 3 times in my life, last one 7yrs ago :) 2 under 15kmh over and one i was exactly 15kmh over.

Sorry if i've upset anyone but he is a good guy, and harsh criticism is unwarranted in this case.

Sensing this is just about dead I'll throw my two bob's worth in.

I'm with Cheeky here, give the bloke a break

Speeding (however you define that) is not in itself dangerous in all circumstances. If it was everyone who rides on a track would be dead. The roadsafe people, the RTA and that ridiculous Scruby bloke (spelling?) would have you believe otherwise though.

Your level of safety is dependant on the speed you are travelling at relative to the conditions, not relative to what the road sign says. Conditions can include, the road, the weather and anything that you can hit. Therefore not everyone who speeds (according to the laws of the land) is an irresponsible maniac who should be locked up.

I ride. I drive and I exceed posted speed limits when I believe that it is safe to do so. I rely on my roadcraft to keep me out of emergency situations and at times I will sit well below posted speed limits eg 60km'h through a busy shopping centre is just way too fast. I would put it to you that 160km/h on the Hume Hwy is a hell of a lot safer than 110km/h given the levels of fatigue and boredom that you have cope with. There was a study done a few years ago which backed this theory up.

If I get fined in these circumstances I don't whinge because I made the decision to exceed the posted limit. If I lost so many points that next time would get me a red card I would religiously obey the posted limits because I need my license ie no license, no job. Again, if I make the decision to do otherwise then it's my problem and I bear the consequences.

Hmmm now I'll go and do the OPH at 70km/h. Woohoo!

i'm actually on the "do the crime, do the time" side...

it sucks to lose your licence. it sucks getting done for speeding even if you dont lose it. but whether its safe or not isn't the issue, its the broken law that is :?

dont get me wrong, i dont think the law is RIGHT, but it is there. and after thinking long and hard about it (and i've had plenty of time to do this  ) i'm a firm beleiver of the phrase "tuff tittes" i do have sympathy for those that lose their licence for speeding, but how much depends on what they learnt from it. if you knowingly exceed the limit and get caught, its just a case of bear with it and get on with your life. bitching about how much the law sucks wont bring the licence back, so you might aswell deal with it and hopefully learn something :D

Mr Coconuts, i think you're missing the point here a little bit..
What were you doing when you lost yours compared to what he did??
he's been a little bit over a few times, not a lot over once.. and that is the point.. If you go really fast on the road and get caught, you have nobody to blame.. No i'm not saying I've never done it either, if i do it and get caught it's my problem.. and one person i know who lost their licence for doing more than 40kmh over the limit is a pastor!!

What i was trying to say that he's being jumped on for being a little bit over a few times.. which is something everyone has done, just have been lucky enough not to get caught .. and before people start pointing fingers at him, they should have a good think about themselves first.
My fines were in a tricked out RX4, an RX7 and a smoko truck.. guess which vehicle i got the 15kmh fine for??

Excuse me -

We have all said we feel sorry for him and that not being able to ride your bike would suck - but the point being made here is that he has broken the law and he got caught.

You can all sit here and bag the cops for not putting him down 1k so he didnt lose his lisence - but he was SPEEDING

AND NO TANYA I HAVE NEVER GOT A SPEEDING FINE EVEN IN MY CAR.

You break the law you got to be prepared to get punished for it

i've been done for a few minors aswell, luckily not enuff in a small period of time to take me off the road for points. the thing is, it doesn't matter how safe it is or how small the margin, you still did the wrong thing. i am strongly opposed to the 3kph tolerances we have down here, and the fact that the copper than pinged him decided not to drop the 1kph to let him have his licence still is a real pain in the arse. but he has obviously done the wrong thing in the eyes of the law more than just this once and would have known he was pushing his luck.

i didn't think he was having that much of a gripe about it, and there is certainly no problem with him and his behaviour from me (god knows i cant friggen preach  ). i was just putting across my point of view in general, and it definately wasn't a "shut up and cop it you lawbreaker", it was more of a "shit happens, deal with it and learn from it".

:D

Thanks everyone for your support and/or opinions.

I would be surprised if everyone on this forum didn't for a few seconds exceed the speed limit at some point each time they got on their bike (be it 2km/h or 20km/h). If you don't then congratulations, you are a better person than I. I don't speed recklessly, indiscriminately or for extended periods of time, and generally follow the speed limits around town. I do however break the speed limit nearly every time I'm on the bike (flame away), if only for a few seconds while merging, overtaking or accelerating out of someone's blind spot.

As such I was due for a ticket and am copping it sweet. Being aware of the law and the penalty does not mean that you agree with it, so you take a calculated risk. If you get caught for something you knew was 'wrong' (read: something someone who has no idea about anything decided should be illegal), you still have a right to feel a bit dirty if you don't believe that what you did endangered yourself or anyone else.

Flame away

My 2c pure bad luck!

Look most of us as riders speed. Be it in town or outta town, its still speeding. Shifty just happened to get caught, I do it every single day and nearly every time I ride and to date have just been damn lucky (and no Jase that is not a challenge).

Everyone will have there own opinion on the subject (at least I hope they do) ie I do it to get clear of traffic, get outta that blind spot, overtake, cause I'm Superman and need to do a minimum of 200km/h everywhere I go, but what ever the reason we all know that its still speeding and is against the law. Shifty did it, got caught, took it on the chin and has managed to keep fairly decent humour about it.

As I said bad luck........oh and unfortuante timing on Shifty's behalf.

nuf said :P

Next time your speedo says 61kmh in a 60 zone.. you are speeding, so get off your high horse and get back into the real world..
You're trying to come across that you've never ever sped in your whole life.. never ?? Or just lucky to have not been caught?

Couldn't have put it better. I have lotsa sympathy for Shifty. If ya wanna go for a double somewhere I would be happy to oblige. :)

I am a firm believer that the system in no way reflects the abilities of motorcycles, putting them in the same position, speed limit wise as heavy vehicles. The system needs changing. It seems that no-one wants to come up to the plate and lobby for road rule change. We all just have to wear it on the chin until change occurs. I think the licencing system needs great reform too BTW.

 Oh Dear!
The speeding debate is always one that comes up from time to time.
At the end of the day you just got to cop it sweet, build a bridge and get over it. Yep it sux but shit happens do the time get your full points back and learn to look for green fluro jackets and suspect vehicles parked on the side of the road.
Personally i do the speed limit on suburban streets/school zones/major hwys like the M1 & Bruce(up here in QLD) cause you know there is going to be a camera somewhere.
The rest of the time when i go 4 rides out a bit(usual qld ride haunts) i go mental. :P
Trackdays are great fun too if you can afford it.

I actually read something funny at another forum today, the old FZR250 has a red speed light that comes on at 80, and this guys wasn't working and he wanted to fix it so he could do the tunnel at 80kmh and not worry about being booked..

Another member replied, another light comes on at 90kmh, it's a blue one..

I thought that was clever :D

My Spada HAD a speed light- a red light comes on the dash at 90km/h or above...disconnected it- ya see a red light and my first thought was always OIL PRESSURE, particularly at night.
