Yes, we can certainly thank the Yanks for 'standardising' the gearlever side.....
my H2 750 has the selector shaft out both sides, it uses '75 cases, I have a couple of spare engines, and both of these also have the selector shaft out each side.( I am pretty sure they are '74 motors)......and most 500's I have seen/worked on also have had the same arrangement.......I am pretty sure the '73 500's were no different, later models did have a small rubber 'boot' over the RHS 'exit', and it can be hard to spot.....
will check the parts manuals for the smaller models (S1, S2 etc), I am 99% sure these also used the same style.....
