I think the race GP style gear shift pattern
should be mandatory on ALL bikes (and even mopeds)
Then nobody has to remember but one style
Think about cars with manual shifting flipped
2 4 6
1 3 5
or worse, also mirrored
6 4 2
5 2 1

Yes, we can certainly thank the Yanks for 'standardising' the gearlever side.....
my H2 750 has the selector shaft out both sides, it uses '75 cases, I have a couple of spare engines, and both of these also have the selector shaft out each side.( I am pretty sure they are '74 motors)......and most 500's I have seen/worked on also have had the same arrangement.......I am pretty sure the '73 500's were no different, later models did have a small rubber 'boot' over the RHS 'exit', and it can be hard to spot.....
will check the parts manuals for the smaller models (S1, S2 etc), I am 99% sure these also used the same style.....

well my 250 had this, my bro changed it over cause he prefered it i learnt on it and now that it has been changed back, i keep fucking it up

well, not really, no. If you are the only person who regularly rides the bike, then you won't run the risk of someone else stuffing up your bike because the gear-change is 'upside-down' ( as Kellz has pointed out...)
Once you make the change and get used to it, then it just becomes second nature.........

u dont nned ur gearbox back..u just need to swap over the shift rod...if it currently attached over the spigot, unbolt it & drop it under the spigot..or vice versa...basically a 180degree swap...
