It would be best getting an 04 and up as it is the most refinded,they are a great bike set up write!however the 03 had a lot of the origonal problems solved.Don't go a 00/01 unless it has been fixed allready.

I had a 02 04 zx12 i found the 04 bit better bike.Both had shit fuel eco between 170 to 220 to a tank both handled ok for a big bikes 04 had better brakes .I recon the 12 might b a bit more versatile than the zx10 depends on where and how far u are riding i really liked my 12 lots of leg room comfy could tour do track days everything .fuel eco shitted me a bit so i got a zx14 hope this helps.

Never whinge about fuel consumption, happy to pay for the fun i get, is more about the distance you get before having to refuel. Not sure how you 300 kays out of a tank on a 12 have to agree great bike

03 ZX12Rs had problems and so did the 00/01 models ....which needed fixing???? :?

not aware of any major issues with any of the ZX12 models...and my '01 model has never needed fixing in any way
its gets serviced (oil filter etc) and other bits replaced (eg brake pads tyres) as needed . Otherwise, its always been
turn the key and enjoy the ride

They did have a recall in 02 for the problem,that may be why you have never had a problem 8) But there must have been alot of bikes that never went back for the recall :?

I don't think major service issues were a problem on the 12's at all mate - well apart from the irregular reg/rec burnout issues reported on a number of forums around the world. This appears to not have been a big problem here in Oz, but it did happen a lot in other markets.

What old mate is referring to is the massive number of updates that occurred between the A model and the B model. There was something in the order of 300+ changes to the bike made. Heaps of small things and a lot of bigger ones. The ECU change was one of the biggest. Its like any bike - the first model is good, but subsequent models are better :lol:

But things do fail - I had the fuel tank split on the MFP12 on a CDT a couple of years ago - it got replaced under warranty even though the bike had been out of warranty for almost 2 years. A good relationship with the local dealer saw that problem fixed. Fuel pumps have been known to fail, but this can happen on any bike - the 12 is not immune to this either. I used to chug through a set of rear pads every 6 months but that is more due to riding style than a design fault :lol: .....
