I feel your pain.. I had a similar experience although it wasn't me that stripped the thread. I picked up my bike after a tune and servie and headed out to the track. After paying out $130 for the track day, I warmed the bike up to see oil dripping out the sump plug. No probs, I'll just tighten it up a bit.......

.. It never tightened and the oil drip turned into a flow...
I packed up and tried everywhere to get an oversized sump bolt to no avail...
I ended up getting (free through work so I don't know how much) a heli coil thread repair kit and whacked it in a couple of days later... It works great, uses the same sump bolt and can be tightened up to more torque than the orig..
Piss easy to install too.... I now have a range of em.. just in case..
