hey ppl
ive got a mate that is selling his 2001 model GPX250. Its only done 6000kms and its never been dropped so its in perfect condition. He said he would sell it to me for $5000. Does this seem like a fair price?
cheers!

Redbook says that a 2001 GPX250 should be around the $3,900 - $4,600 mark. Buying it new would cost you $8,290 so hrm.

Has your mate been a good boy & run it in properly & followed the maintenence schedule? (i.e. has he done the first couple of oil changes which are very very important)
Anyhow 6000km's is near new anyhow at under 40km/week.
Besides redbook is rarely accurate, I find it undervalues some vehicles and overbloats on others. The only vehicle i've seen it spot on for is a corolla. Everything else is wrong. I'd determine market value by checking the tradingpost

.

It's only just outside the redbook range, and it's only done 6000kms, so seems pretty reasonable to me if it's in good nick.
I'd start by offering $4500 though

PS, my '89 GPX250 cost me $3000 with 50000k's on the clock - but then I got ripped off. Hence why I think the offer seems reasonable.

Does sound a little steep..
Just to rub it in to Ty
My wife bought an 89 gpx 250 R (with twin disks and modified air box, 2 hp more than std they say..

) with 40,000ks on it for $1000 unreg...
Sold it 12 months later for $2200....
There all the same form 88 to now... except the super sport R model of course...

its in perfect condition and i wld assume he has done all the shit yr meant to as hes a bit of a perfectionist.
ill see if he will knock some cash off, even if its only a couple of hundred bux
but looking through the papers n shit, 5k doesnt seem too much to ask. you dont see many GPX's with such low k's. a lot of the ones ive enquired about that say low k's, they have still done 20 - 30k!!!
im over in WA too, so maybe prices are different over here?!?!?
cheers

You can look at it this way:
If it is as good as you say, you are getting it at roughly 60% new price. That's not bad if there is no money to spend, as really, to get a better GPX you have only one option - to buy new.
Redbook only averages the prices. Remember, above average condition vehicles get above average prices.
Question is: what's it worth to you?

Looking at
these I'd say now that it's a reasonable price.
Still might wanna beat him down though

Hi,
TOO MUCH!
I had this model when I traded up to my ZZR600 in December 2002.
10,000km PERFECT condition, run as per the manual, full service history, Ventura rack...couldn't get (as a trade in) any more than
$4000 (and this was nearly two years ago).
Most offered $3000-$3500, best offer was Peter Stevens (where it came from) who felt sorry for me and gave me $4k. Having said that, in December 2002 they still had brand-new 2001 GPX250s for $6k + ORC, so in that light, $4k is a pretty good deal. The 2004s aren't much more in Peter Stevens now, and I've never seen them anywhere near RRP in any year.
Good little bikes, apart from the weird size wheels...limits tyre choices.
HTH, feel free to PM if you need any more info.
PS> Ask your mate to get a quote on how much they'll give him for a trade in and offer him a bit more.

...this is a 2004 grey import for $4490.
Yes, it's from OS, but your mate's bike is also out of warranty and it's 3 years older.
And they're identical world-wide, except in California where they have anal pollution-control crap installed.

Start it at around $4000.

Sounds Good Booze get as many extras as you can mate, dont forget Boots as well. And just to put my Ole Farks hat on for a sec .....
ALL Bikes are inherently unstable, it WILL fall over, the trick is too prolong the Gravity test as long as possible.
I'm always happy for people to prove me wrong with a good dose of "I'll show that ole car'nt"
Having said that Have a BALL.
Cheers Brett
