It's even scarier when a car with them fitted has a tread on a rear tyre let go in front of you and the carcase comes scooting at you not much less than the speed of light, followed by an almighty bang..

Ah they were OK on the some of the Vals I had. Had a few let go with mixed results, sometimes enough air would stay in them for you to get to the next town to sort it, other times it would throw the car sideways at over 140 kmh (er... I mean 100 8) ) into a heavy duty signpole in the middle of nowhere and leave you with a nice mess to clean up.

But man they were cheap.....

I had one let go on the old XA coupe at about 130km/h near Braidwood. The thing fishtailed all over the road for a fair distance before I could pull it up

cleaned out the wheel well nicely though

Exact same thing happened to our trailer, but our tyres are about 10000 years old. Lucky we have high quality tiedowns

lol....a mate and i were doing 160kph in or shit-box cars down a country road when we were teens, slowed down for a 40kph corner and it was then that he realised that two of his retreads had disintergated.

Thankfully they held air till he had slowed down for corner...had to use my spare and his to get him home.
