Question 1. Draggin knees.
Not sure what I'm not doing quite right, but still cant get knee down low enough. Not sure
how close I'm getting bc thats not something I'm looking at while cornering, all I know is that
my knee hasent touched yet.
Apart from 1.5cm of tyre (at most), I'm using full range of rubber avail (note in pic below)
& corner with one arse cheek off the bike.
Is that last bit of unused tyre what makes all the difference? Could it be that it shouldnt make
a difference & that the problem is more likely positioning of the leading knee?
Question 2. Yoshi RS-3
At my next service I plan on gettin the can cut in half. Anyone done this mod before?

that looks like a fairly substantial chicken strip on the back tyre still... 1.5cm is plenty of unused tyre! are you getting the pegs scraping? on my 98 9R i had the back tyre melting right to the very edge and plenty of peg scraping last track day i did.. couldnt quite reach the ground but didnt really phase me... perhaps if i did some hip stretches to be more flexible and had some higher rear sets, but i still ran a good time
i think you need to carry more corner speed and lean over further... tho if your tyres are getting old and square it can make it harder, even if theres plenty of meat left
id look at your suspension settings if your not confident to push any harder thru a corner
oh and id save knee scraping for the track! or even trying to ...
you dont *have* to scrape your knees to ride fast, and its certainly not neccessary on the road, not at all.
oh and your crazy if you butcher a good yoshi

maybe get a rough looking one off ebay or from a wrecker if thats your plan... is this so you can wheelie further?

maybe it's the tyre tread pen stopping the bike from leaning?

I was wondering how long it was gonna take someone to notice that.................well done Tanya
Don't go butchering a perfectly good carbon RS3, will look worse than the tyre paint (blue and green should never be seen)
Take it easy on the edges of them tyres, if they are gettin on and haven't seen any action on the sides, just be careful on the roads.
Looks to me that the strips could be ya problem, ya could try hanging right off, like some of the heroes we see on the putty Rd (R1's and Gixxers usually), mate, their bikes are almost upright and they get there knee down
Me personally, on the road couldn't give a fu^k, if it happens it happens, if it don't it don't.......I'm still holding my position and letting the bike follow the lines (bit old school) but me thinks I'm gonna have to get a little more sharper to keep up with Madkaw and Glen
I love my bike but, and I always feel that if ya push it that 10 10ths before ya ready it's a remedy for disaster, last thing ya wanna do is lowside on a 9 on the public highway, they ain't no lightweight and if ya get pinned by the monster ya gonna be in a bad way, so take it easy dude, it will come in time.
Ya don't want to spoil that 9 especially the best coloured one

Only asking because I want to get louder. Mate has cut his on his gixxer & it
didnt look shit to me and had a good sound; which is what prompted me to
get the same done as well

LOL
I've seen that happen before. Made me have a quiet chuckle.

I dont care either.. was more curious than anything else. As you said, it will
come with time. I'm doing OK for someone whos only been riding coupla months.
Not really bothered about crashing it tho. That happens & its written off, I'll be
able to get a better bike anyways.
Hopefully later this year I'm going to buy a litre bike anyway & this bike will
really get a thrashing &/or I'll use it as my track bike

Don't worry so much about getting your knee down, as it will be hard if this is what you are 'trying' to do. Just go for corner speed, as the faster you go through a corner the more lean angle it will necessitate to make it through the other side, and with time your knee will hit the deck all on it's own.
Your height depends on how much lean you will need, but it sure is achieveable for most people. I am only 5'7" and I can destroy a set of plastic knee sliders in a day at the track. Hence why I use Leather ones now. It is a lot easier on the track too, you can commit to a corner by the 4th or 5th time you ride through it, and get heaps more lean angle.
But do not expect to be going real fast until those chicken strips are completely gone from at least the back tyre. Being vegetarian I try to get rid of mine within the first 6 or 7 corners.....

yep just hang in there, maybe some yoga will help

I am still in pain in the hipjoints from the last track day.
I dont get my knee down either but it will happen eventually, I dont suffer from chicken strips either and think maybe i just have a short thighbone rather than being built like a grasshopper.
What sort of tyres have you gt on that nine, some turn better than others and you can make adjustments to the bike to make it turn harder but these adjustments can also make the bike want to throw you on the bitumen.
Have fun and you go better if your relaxed at the track rather than worrying about your knee hitting the deck, boots dragging is usually a sign or digging in a peg.

I took my 98 ZX9R to the track and got boot-peg-knee down but since most of my carcass was still up on the bike it was knee down at point of traction impairment leading to big mid corner tankslapper.
Then a clued up bloke told me "mate....point your elbow to the inside of the corner, move your weight forward over the front wheel and move your body off the bike as if your going to kiss the mirror"
Knee down happened without trying from then, in fact i found myself pulling the knee back in once i knew what i could get away with.
I never ever managed knee down on the road.
But then chicken strips were never an issue either.

Cutting the pipe will make it pretty loud. I've made a short underfairing pipe for my bike. The total length is 210mm and its pretty bloody loud! I'd definately be getting an old pipe first just in case it's too loud.

try turning your shoulder in towards the front of the bike.
i.e. don't just stick ur knee straight out.
hang off a little towards the front of the bike.
worked for me.

210mm is the length of ya can now?
My engine is my horn now
Horns come off from wheelies, so I'm not puttin it back on again
