The Inaugural Dad'n'Dave Road Trip

Post by nobby »

My wife flew out to the UK today, (I know she's gone cause I stayed at the airport to make sure) :P :P

So it's time for my son and I to head off for our mini road trip, we plan to spend a couple of nights in Bright exploring the roads, enjoying the local pubs and grubs, and generally trying to keep out of serious trouble.

Then it's a very loose plan to come back over the Alpine Way through Omeo and into Bruthen, Bairnsdale and home.

We would appreciate any advice on good roads and rides out of Bright, which pubs have the best grub and probably the best wood fires, what to avoid, where we may have to smile cause the man with the camera wants an 8 x 6 glossy, etc, etc, etc.... also looking for alternatives routes back to Narre, from Bruthen /Bairnsdale.

And where and what is this MEG thing I keep reading about?????

Thanks in advance

Dad'n'Dave.

Only just noticed this so hopefully I havn't missed your departure already.
Try running over the tawonga gap from Bright. It runs over from hotham side of Bright to Mt Beauty. nice bot of road. The road that runs from Ovens to Kancoona is good and the Granya pass From bonegilla to the murray valley highway is a nice run too.

The run over hotham and down to Bruthen is sorta a one road ride. but there are some back ways back to narre without having to hang too much on the highway.

from Bairnsdale head out to lindenow and Walpa, fernbank, Briagalong, Boisdale, Coongala (passed the turn off don't turn right and go into town) Heyfield, Cowwarr, Toongabbie, Glengarry, Tyers, Yallourn Nth, Tanjil South, Willow Grove, Trafalgar, and then suffer the last few k's on the fwy. Prolly had enough by then I would think anyhoo!!

There are really only two questions in life. 1.Which way do i go? 2.What is the lap record?

Mate, she'd better come back, she's promised to bring me back a TT T-Shirt (that's hard to say)

Work in the Mansfield to Whitfield run on the way up to Bright , and then stop for lunch at the Whitfield Pub .
Great idea staying in Bright
A run up Buffalo is worthwhile with a nice place for coffee at the top .
The Cabins in the caravan park are pretty comfy for the price .

And Bright has a speach therapist to help ya work on that TT T shirt stutter
Ummmm let me see
