The best road in NSW?

1,750ks, 4 days, 4 bacon rolls, almost 1 roo and discovering the 'Thunderbolt Way'....

After just getting my license back, what better weekend to go away and rebond with my baby 6 than double cash grabbing bastar*s weekend. So i leave Sydney with 3 changes of pants and no idea where i'm heading, just me the sparkling new ZX6-R and the open road. So open it takes an hour to get out of Sydney on Friday morning.

To keep this short...

Day1 - Sydney, through the Hunter, inland north to Taree to stay with family

Day2 - Taree, Gloucester (Barrington Tops) - up the 'Thunderbolt Way' - OH MY GOD WHAT A GREAT ROAD. There is a sign at the beggining that says 'Motorcyclists - This is not Eastern Creek'. Bollocks to that - 100ks of nothing but bends and mountains. Absolutely rocks. Must do. Even did 8ks on unsealed to shave 50ks off the trip. Ended up in Tamworth somehow, big guitar (??) and then south and stayed in Scone.

Day3 - Round the back of the bluies to Mudgee. Early start, nearly hit a Roo at 130ks. Wouldn't have been pretty. Near death experience overtaking a coach load of oldies in the middle of nowhere - the roads were that bad that while overtaking, i hit a patch of bumps that made the front wheel come up and the back wheel start bouncing, looking down i was at 180 in 3rd. Pooed my pants. Into Lithgow and over the top into Windsor. Something then possessed me to ride to Jarvis Bay as i had a few mates on the piss in the Husky Pub. Onto the juice.

Day4 - Kangaroo Valley uphill always a pleasure. Back to Sydney through 5 speed traps.

Trip highlight: THE THUNDERBOLT (And while abiding the speed limit, getting overtaken by a Britz campervan driven by an elderly couple).

Shame no pics - amazing scenery - i love this country and my 6. Although my right wrist is now battered courtesy of country roads - there goes the sex life....

Ive just been up in the Bulladelah Mountains for easter camping. This use to be a significant black spot of the hwy until the Bulladelah bypass (doesn't actually bypass the town Bulladelah, just the mtns btw Taree and Bulla) was completed. I think this road is severely forgotten and untapped. Its now called Wooton Way/Rd and is the most exciting, undulating and cornering rd that is absolutely picturesq with its tall straight white gumtree forest, wide roads and surprisingly reasonable tarmac with no one in sight. The road surface hasn't perished at all and is still quite smooth and intack, absolutely no cars or cops.
This is a fantastic rd for riding and camping and as soon as i get enough people who wanna go ride it im up for it. I reckon most people don't even remember its there, and I bet most riders have never been on the road since the mountains were bypassed. It is an untapped rider utopia that we're all missing out on.

oxley runs from Walcha to port Macquarie, pretty much next to the thunderbolts way.

Awesome road, not bumpy and in bad state of repair like thunderbolts way :(
45km of 25/35kmh corners, perfectly cambered and smooth as :) Or the flowing curves through the farmland, or the section up to Walcha that are fast and flowing :D

Shits all over Thunderbots way :) Make sure you do it next time and you'll see :D
