I should have known better

Spent the day at Easter Nats at Sandown, top day, made even better by the fact that I got a couple of hours on the bike before I went, was able to ride right through the gate and park inside Sandown and all for free (compliments of my son)

Nothing better than the smell of burning rubber and the sound of a good V8, screw these poxy whistling turbo's, give me a good aussie thumper anyday.

Well I figure that with all these folk high on octane, NOS and Cougar, I better keep a bloody good wanker watch on the way home, you know, just to make sure I don't get knocked off the bike by some pillock with his doof doof mashing the last of his brain cells into pulp.

But I made the almost fatal error of taking my eyes of the most dangerous vehicle on the road, the dreaded yellow cab with half a temple hanging of the rear vision mirror..... bastard missed me by inches and I needed a change the draggins when I got home......

I should have know better...... still it was a top day and I'm going back to do it all again tomorrow.....

sorry im a chevy girl. buikt both s amall and big block for a summernats ute..
the big block caused us nothing but grief as we ahd it bored out to 515 and then we twisted the head after it was all complete running it in and pulled a bolt out of the block...

then the gearbox couldnt handle the power and then the diff wouldnt work with the power ended up needing a 10bolt.. finally got it running 4 weeks after the nats.. put out some stupid amount, i gave up on it when it was finished and went back to the small block, my mate never told me what he got on the dyno but spins teh tyres at 150 in 2nd gear uphill

Lamenting a little though, there was a time when Easter Nats was not only about horsepower, you could go along and see some abso"bloody"lutely awesome builds, now it's NOS, doof and smoke.... still good, but there were no 49 Merc's, no 34 Ford's, no low-riders, no roadster's, no bucket's, there was a 55 Chevy, and a 1930'ish Dodge pick-up.
Didn't see a set of Boyd Coddington wheels anywhere, but not all bad...... did see the Cougar girls, and a real sweet blown FB Holden.

.

as a holden boy thru and thru all i can say is...

"if its good enuf for Victor Bray, its good enuf for me"

i do believe he used to plonk Hemi donks in his chevy...he reckons there a pretty good bit of gear...

oh yea...much prefer a v8 to a ricey...My old HZ wasnt as quick as my mates rx3 13B, but it had no trouble towing it to the mechanics 3 times when he blew it up

Holden man here...

I've owned a few V8's and my favourite was definately my 308 black motor in my VK...

There's no replacement for displacement.

Had a great day at Eastern Creek. Nothing like the sound of a screaming Kwaka at max chat into turn 1. Unfortunately it wasn't me, but a guy wilth GOLDY embroidered on his leathers. Had Kev McGee giving free advice and suspension tweaking.

What a day. 6 sessions, ground the pegs, and got home w/out any double demerits. Supping back the vino and VB and no work tmrw :!: :!:

I might just die now....

Holden man here too, but have to admit nothing sounds sweeter than a 351 just after you lift the foot of at 160mph, (done legally on an airstrip) that exhaust note as she backs off........F'awesome!!!!!

My elder brother ran an FC Holden with an Oldsmobile ( Rocket 88 ) 303, straight through pipes, a couple of Hotdog resonators, Jag diff, Chevy gearbox, Hurst shifter, I can remember him waking every bloody dog in the street when he took off to work.
