Rossi puts out the challenge

I just heard Rossi has put the challenge out to F1 driver Alonso (or whoever it was who said Rossi's F1 times were nothing special and he could probly do the same on a bike).
The challenge is to do laps in a F1 car, Rally car and a moto GP bike and see who has the best average lap time....
Should be interesting.... although Rossi will be so much quicker on the bike (and probly quicker in the Rally car if recent tests are anything to go by) it won't be much of a competition...

Rossi Challenges Alonso To A Contest
Today
Valentino Rossi has taken the little verbal ‘tit for tat’ that he and Formula One champion Fernando Alonso have been having recently and challenged the 24-year-old Renault driver to a duel on 2 & 4 wheels, just to see who is quickest overall.
Alonso was the first to start the comments, when last month in an news conference, indicated that he was unimpressed by the charismatic Italian’s Formula One tests for Ferrari and felt it would be very hard for the MotoGP champion to transition from two to four wheels.
"He might finish fifth or even get on the podium some time but I could do the same on the bikes if I was given enough time to practise," the Spaniard told a packed news conference.
Alonso’s comments seem to have appealed to the showman in Rossi and he was quoted by British weekly Motorcycle News last Wednesday as saying that he was happy to put Alonso to the test.
"I read that if Alonso is able to make some practice then he can put a MotoGP bike on the podium with me," the Doctor was on record as saying.
"Well, I think we should drive a Formula One car, a World Rally car and a MotoGP bike, add the times together and then we will see who is the fastest."
Rossi has shown his interest in four wheels repeatedly by testing with Ferrari including a session in February of this year along with other top name drivers and several stints in rally cars.
With Alonso having won Formula One's season-opening round at the Bahrain Grand Prix last weekend the contest would at least be interesting, although I think Rossi would have it won in the mind games department.

Sounds like a PR exercise to me.
Rossi is just heightening his exposure and profile to F1 fans, trying to create a rivalry with Alonso so everyone hopes he goes to F1 next year and the war wil be on!
Yeah - I know Alonso started it, but he'd be in on it too. AFter listening to all the F1 is boring remarks for the past few years, he would want to draw attention to Rossi going there next year and have people salivating about the possibility!
Everyone is excited by it already!

Two names, John Surtees & Damon Hill.
Both raced bikes, both went to F1 & won the championship. Surtees won the world champoinship for both catagories.

Well if you want a *real* celebrity-turned-biker, its hard to go past (no it wasn't

) old mate Simon Le Bon, frontman from Duran Duran, who raced a 600 back in Pomgolia during the '80's.......not sure how successful he was.......

thing is, when rossi tested and set those respectable times he was driving an F2004 spec Ferrari, not the current spec. This was last year mind you, still though pretty good.

He set the kinda pace a minardi manages in a top car. A bit off the pace, but not bad for someone not used to pushing cars. Bikes aren't so easy to master at full tilt, makes for a harder transition.
