I know that evryone is going to say, dont spend too much on a 250, you've only got it for 15 months. But this is
only a
thought.
How would I go about importing a 2006 ZX2R

Firstly i thought they stopped making these puppies a while ago, everything after about 1994-1996 or so is referring to the compliance date, not the manufacturing date.
Secondly you'd have to discuss the issue with a company that imports and approves bikes commercially. You might be able to get one as a personal import, but it'd cost an arseload of money and im not sure if it'd be worth it.
Thirdly, is that a photochop job?

they stopped making it long time ago, plus that pic is not a zx2r, it's the zx6r i think with wrong stickers, it's been mentioned before somewhere in this forum before.

Besides Kawasaki called it the ZXR250, marketroids in Australia started calling it the ZX2r. It's like me calling my GPX750r an "early model ZX7r"

correct.
that bike doesn't actually exist.
it's a zx6 in disguise.
all the c models were built between 91 and 98
(though the ones from about 95 onwards were actually built earlier and left sitting in a warehouse until they were sold).
the c is the newest ZXR250 u can buy.
there are two years to look out for.
the first is the build date (somewhere between 91 and 98) which indicates when it was first sold in japan.
and the second is the compliance date which is the year it was imported and brought up to meet australian ADRs. and it has to meet the ADRs of the year of import not the year of manufacture. which is why it is the legal year of the bike.
what that means is everything is rebuilt or reconditioned and the clocks wound back. this isn't necessarily anything dodgy.
if they could, dealers like sumoto would just import the bikes and sell them as the year they were manufactured if all they had to do was meet the adrs of that year.

Tracy up here imported a zxr400 & it was a peach ... just sold it to become a TRACK BIKE

what a waste. But she did get a very good price for it.
As for the real zxr2 depends on what it is, some are great & some are DODGY as hell.

Twin exhausts on an inline 4?

Oh yeah plus the fact it looks like a ZX6 to begin with

My ZZR is an inline 4 with twin exhausts and it's not on it's pat malone by any means

Common as batshit in fact given that it's a stock arrangement.

Far more expensive than its actually worth, and I can tell you from watching a friend trying to import a FZR250 a few years ago, it's very easy to end up with an unregisterable vehicle you've just paid $$$ to freight over here if you don't know what you're doing. Why would you go through all the hassle of attempting to personally import a vehicle that is fundamentally no different to those already here? And more to the point, a vehicle that is not really that special? If a ZX2R was worth all this hassle, do you think diesel would have replaced his with a ZX9R?
Action Motorcycles in North Melbourne used to sell "new" ZX2Rs as recently as 2003. Whether they were an old bike with a new paint job and the clock wound back to zero, or whether they were genuinely a newbike made under licence in a tin shed in the Upper Volta, I don't know. The price of these "new" was $9000 + ORC. For that kind of money, you could buy diesel's old ZX2R, or the ZXR250 you posted the ad for recently, and have $4000 left over for a new paint job and any mechanical repairs that might crop up. And no worries about insurance or registration problems because you didn't get the right form signed when you imported it yourself.

not far off the mark there john.
the new zx2s you refer to have been wound back and "refurbished" to comply with current ADRs.
is a zx2 worth the hassell??????
IMO yes....and no.
yes because it's an awesome little bike.
great fun to learn how to corner properly.
the only reason i bought the 9 was cos i know recycled needed the cash.

OK - I take it back - the ZX2R is truly special (can I have a quick fang on your one then?

) There's hundreds of those special little bikes already screaming around Australian roads, available in every colour of the rainbow. No need to bother trying to personally import one. Particularly if it's a photoshop drawing!
