Just a quickie guys, the cd drive on my pc has disappeared from my computer folder and my desk top, its a pain in the arse to get to it now.

I know it's simple to repair but I'll be buggered if I can remember the sequence to do it!

Any help in restoring it back would be appreciated, my pc has been that reliable for so long that when something goes wrong now I can't remember how to fix it.

Thanx guys

If it has disapeared from "My computer" it is either unplugged or broken or the drive letter has been removed altogether.... Control panel, administrative tools, computer management, disk management

Dont know if this would fix it but with the XP cd in the CD drive "start/run box" type sfc /scannow this scans windows for missing and broken system files. Worth doing occasionally.

Does the CD Rom still light up when you boot up
Does it eject when you push the button to eject?
Does it spin when you put a cd in??

If it lights up - its not power, Check / replace the IDE Cord, it may have vibrated loose - if it isnt, replace it with another one.

If that fails, system check and defrag (i know) and if that doesnt work, a decent spyware/virus check etc

and if that doesnt fix it... get a new one for like 65 bucks (which is a dvd burner as well)
