the uk goverment today has orderd no more speed cameras that is after any that are already being put into place , they have also issued instructions for local councils to find a better way of policing the roads [hmmm maybe thay may even use ermmmmmm police ] this in my mind is basicly a climb down and admitance that they have screwd half the population over with false readings and fines . so enjoy it while you can becuse it looks as though plods going to be around again [ now you can look forward to false readings and a damn good kicking ]

And the joy of living in Victoria, that a senior plod doesn't even need a camera to book you at an estimated speed, and I believe that it will stand up in court..

should be illegal IMO..

Why? Can't you estimate the speed of a car/bike? Sure you can! Every one here who rides or drives is able to stand on the side of the road and say:
"Geeze, this dickhead is flying! He must be doig at least 90 down that side street."

Add on to this the fact that coppers book thousands of people for speeding and estimating speed becomes second nature.

Well - if you're next to a car doing 60 in a 60 zone
and you go past them like they're standing still
then you're doing 120+ hheehehe

Oh very scientific..!!! if thats the case then the government should stop waisting $ on speed camera equipment and just put cops on the footpath with a note pad.!!... :-)
Most bikes these days look like there going 100kph just standing there..
Book em.!!... :-)

yeah and when they get it wrong??? have a bad day or a head ache and mis judge.. but some poor bastard loses his license anyway for not doing anything wrong.

A friend of the old mans moved from Darwin, and is a senior ranked officer in the army in vic, and got pulled up on his harley on the way to the barracks by a sargent to estimated his speed in traffic, and apparently he wasn't speeding... but nothing he can do.. just cause other traffic is going slower makes him look like he is going faster... crock of shit..

Either you must have speed camera's/lasers/radars or you don't... simple as that..

Reminds me of a story I heard recently about a guy who got booked for having an exhaust that was too loud....

The cop just booked him

He went to an EPA aproved sound testing station who said it was within the range it should be...

he went to court... with his little ticket showing it wasnt too loud...

and lost...

His word against the coppers... after the copper drives away, who says he doesn't swap the can over...

Which means the police officer should NOT be able to fine someone in a situation where they have no legal come back.. An EPA notice should be issued instead, IMO..

My speed got 'estimated' once... when I raised an objection the officer said he would be happy to give me a second ticket for 'dangerous driving' if I appealed it.

Being young and stupid I shut up and took the fine.

Oh, here we go. The old "I heard a story from a mate, and my mate says he wasn't speeding" line. Yeah, right. If someone here can HONESTLY say they've been hard done by with regards to being nicked for speeding, and can honestly say they didn't give the copper a mouthful when they got pulled up, then what can I say? It shouldn't happen!

But I'm not stupid enough to believe that it doesn't happen.

Having said that, when coppers estimate a speed, it's usually within a range. Say 15-29 over. Anyone here with a licence and half a brain can tell when someone is doing withing 15-29 over. Or 30+ over.

If you are doing 30 over the limit and you get a ticket in the 15-29 range, how is that being hard done by? If you get a ticket for doing 30+ and you were only doing 25 over, well... stiff shit. Don't get caught.

If you aren't happy with your ticket, get a lawyer and go to court. The copper will need to provide evidence with regards to observations etc etc and even if you don't win, there's a chance that you will still get to keep your licence.

Personally, I'm all for getting rid of the cameras and putting more coppers on the street. But the government pays the camera operators less than the coppers, and the cameras on poles cost even less to run!

In the mean time, watch out for this prick.

Hey Shifty been there and copped that.
Tough guy cop, Mr "who do you think your challenging eh??" did me with the same argument and I got it (manner dangerous). Insecure little moron fart.

Anywho took it to court and SMEARED him across the floor. Judge had a field day with his waste of time charges. F8ck it was soooo good, you shoulda seen the "butbutbutbutbut" from Cleetus in court. Talk about dig a hole.

One thing that I learned ... ALWAYS be careful what you say to the WALLOPERS because it ALL comes back in court.
