Helmet at servos?

Hey guys,

So what does everyone do with your helmet when filling up?

Clipping it under the seats seems a little slow and painful, putting it on the ground a little icky, the seat of the bike seems like asking to drop it, and holding it whilst filling up is pushing my powers of coordination!

On another note I filled up yesterday, wandered in to pay, thought "hmm, a bottle of soft drink would be a good idea", and then came back out to the bike before realising I didn't have any way to carry it.

Fortunately tucking it into the jacket for the short ride home worked, but gee did I feel stupid!

Up till recently, the servo i normally go to didnt seem to care if i left it on during fill up. Now i sit it on the tank in front of the filler.
Also i have been stuffing things in my jacket to carry em for years, i nreckon its the best way, even if you do look like you gained a few... :D

The servo's in my area, will not let you stay on bike with or without helmet on,
you must stand on side of bike with helmet off.(i try to place my helmet between pumps or next to pump clean spot).
If you spill fuel while your sitting on your bike, all it takes is a spark to trigger a disaster.
ps
you can forget your soft drink!

I always slide my helmet over the mirror AND the handle bar on the non-stand side of the bike. I have never had a helmet fall off.

I wear mine into the Servo, too cold this time of year to take it off :). I fuel the bike while it's on its centre-stand.

One of the girl's behind the counter is a pillion to a mad-keen motorcyclist and she's always up for a chat.

If you put the d-rings of the lid on the pinion peg they seem to grip fairly well (cheers for that tip Ponty).

i fuel up at the mobil servos so i can use pay at the pump. So then i dont remove my helmet and only have to remove one glove.. :) But then i get the odd one that the pay at pump isnt working for some reason so off comes the helmet and a few words to the console operator as to why isnt the pay at pump working and what a pain in the arse it is.. :x

I can understand why we need to take off helmet before going into the servo to pay, but why do we need to take it off when filling up?
How much fuel can we get away with? $20? $30? Most bikes don't have fuel tank more than 19L.

I've only come across one servo in Brisbane that have such rule, SHELL at Coronation Drive(Milton) thebirdman.gif . Obviously I'm never going to that servo again.
