ZRX 1200 R 2008

Post by MrPlow »

I'm looking at a zrx1200 r to buy but and when i started it up it had a ticking sound for 10 to 15 seconds and wondered if anyone aware of any known issues with happening on a these bikes. I had a 2001 zrx 1200 s model but always started it every few days and don't remember it happening on my old bike.
Cheers

Could be a bit of valve/shim noise when cold. Once the oil gets up there it goes away.

Could be loose alternator nut, or camchain. My better ZRX has some camchain noise- always has and it also had the loose alternator nut thingo. I imagine you are looking at the 08 for $7700 in Adelaide with 30 odd thousand kms on it. Got a friend here looking for ZRX and sent her details of that one. Too far away but looks a reasonable bike at a good price. :D

If it's the same as mine the noise is from the top of the engine?

Once the oil gets up there it seems to go away.

Use a different oil. When I had my ZRX I used castrol 4T Never had a gear change issue, or any strange noises ever.

A good quality oil like Coles Black & gold or Aldi oil will solve all your problems.............

Mine also has that light ticking sound. It's never caused any problem that I know of, my mechanic at Kawasaki was not in the least bit concerned about it either. You could try running some Seafoam through the fuel, which may help breakdown any varnish build up in the engine and generally lube and clean the carbs and other moving parts.
