Ok ,so who would be the best person to do this????? any idears :D
Main things would be level of smoke ,noises in engine, that it goes through gears smoothly, then the obvious chain, disc wear, bearing wear in head and wheels swing arm.

Yeah probably not going to ride it home,Freight seems to be reasonable under $300 so now to wait for a reply from owner and then go from there.

If anyone from Sydney needs some tips about what to look for..............

No abnormal engine knocking - having said that, if you have never heard a 2T 500 triple before, the engine noises could come as a bit of a surprise  . This is a bike where you want to see a bit of smoke out the exhaust .....and it needs to be blue. But just a waft OK ?

As long as the motor starts first or second kick and idles well - and makes no rattly noises - that is a good start.

Everything else really requires a road-test. But you can check some basics - swingarm play (important- these babies only had bushes not bearings) - steering head bearings, wheel bearings. Gearbox operation has to be done on the road.

Don't think I've ever seen "waft" written before, I had to read and re-read it until my head went "ahhhhhhhhhh, not wAft, wOft!"

Thanks to all the replies and offers of help and advise, considering the only test ride i can get is down an alley,so on that basis its a canned project. :?

lol my KH250 Triple...is a bit tricky to ride for the unaware.

First gear you need to keep slight pressure on the gear lever to stop it jumping up into neutral and when in second...pressure from underneath for the same reason. Never bothered to pull it down and fix it, as I got used to it,...and like the little quirk. Hoping to get it back on the road for a little squirt shortly. Miss that bloody thing. Used to ride it to high school, many moons ago...love it.

that is just a worn return spring on the external drum mechanism - its behind the front sprocket and can be fixed pretty easily if needed.......but quirks like that are all part of riding old bikes ;)

I just bunged another 12 months historic rego on my S1 250/3........the little P4 race bike (with lights for the odd VJMC ride ).
