Buying my wreck back?

Hey all, I haven't heard whether my bike has been written off yet or not, but I'm thinking if it is I'll buy it back and track it if I can get it for the right price. Has anyone had any experience with this? Is the insurance company going to try and get me to pay almost as much as a working bike if I ask to buy the wreck?

When my 04 ZX10 got written off the guy buying it, think it was metro's, from the insurance company, simply gave me a cheque for the difference and the insurance company paid the balance, might depend on if its your insurance or another drivers, mine was the other guys.

I got offered to buy mine back but when I did the numbers it wasn't worth it. My bike was basically a stock FZ1 and I wanted to change bikes anyway.
That was in the days when they still did repairable write offs, thus the bike had more value at auction then what would be the case today.
See if you can get the list of repairs and retail cost, this will give a good idea of what has to be replaced to put it back on the road or make it track worthy.

How much work had you done to it already that you wouldn't need to for the track?
What was the pre accident mechanical condition like?
Are you happy with it?
You can pick up a set of fibreglass fairings for pretty reasonable money for that model as it shouldn't need too much more work to get it track ready.
Sonic the above sounds positive then it all depends on the price the ask for!

How much work had you done to it already that you wouldn't need to for the track? I fitted HID lights and it has a rack and a tail tidy
What was the pre accident mechanical condition like? A1, the only thing that's negative are the KMs are highish aka 75000.
Are you happy with it? It would make a great track bike. Mods are...
Marchesini wheels, Brembo MC, ZX14 calipers, Braided lines, Factory pro shift star, Factory pro inlet trumpets, Piper-cross filter, Arata full Ti exhaust, Exhaust valve eliminator, PCIII, Quick shifter, Quick action throttle, Ohlins race steering damper, WP twin speed shock, Gold valves in forks, Double bubble screen.
Damage is.... (I've listed all bits, some of which won't be needed for the track)
Bent guard mount on LH fork so needs a fork bottom, Front guard, Head light assy, All upper fairing sections, Both mid fairings, LH lower fairings, Dinged collector pipe on cylinder 1, Over flow bottle, Ram AIR tube, Speedo healer torn off, Small scratches on frame rail caused by fairing getting ripped off.
There is another option. Reading the NSW write off laws, I can buy the wreck back, fix it, and re-register it. No one else can, but the owner can. Don't know if that would be worth it thought.

From what you've said above it'd make a great track bike even with the high K's.

Bike got written off. Bought it back for $2500. More than I wanted to pay, but knowing what goodies are on it, it's still not a bad deal. All I have to do is replace the ram air tube and overflow bottle, then chuck on some race glass and sticky hoops and I'm good to go.

I'd get that engine looked over by a professional first... 75000k's on a track bike means that engine will probably expire sooner than later. And with all the bits in it, it can really be an awesome track bike!

Fairings for that model can be had pretty cheap 2nd hand from eBay or Formula Extreme's Classifieds
