The fuel tap on my 82 GPZ750 leaks. Previous owner complained about it when I picked it up and he had fitted an inline on/off fuel tap.
Is this a common recurring problem or a simple case of replacing the valve?

Many many moons ago I had a 1984 GPz750 that the diaphragm at the back of the fuel tap went on, the fuel all leaked into the crankcase 
.... it was very clean after the oil change though

fuel tap kits available from Z1 Enterprises - this will fix the leaking tap.
Has happened to a couple of my taps over the years - they are probably OEM gaskets in your tap mate.....
