NSW riders could be stung with greenslip costs

Information released by the Motor Accidents Authority (MAA) has caused concern among the NSW motorcycling community, with speculation that new government proposals could see the cost of greenslips drastically increased to over $2000.
The MAA released figures yesterday to alleviate motorcyclists’ recent fears that the greenslips will soon become more expensive, but the information contained in the report has instead given riders more reason to worry.
The numbers claim that it costs an average of $221,000 to rehabilitate motorcyclists after a crash with another vehicle, and the MAA expects proposed changes in the existing scheme to include at-fault drivers, riders, and those in single-vehicle crashes, increasing the number of motorcycle claims by 1000 every year. It is expected that these extra claims will be funded by making greenslips more expensive.
“That could result in an increase in payouts to motorcyclists of $221 million. Just that increase alone is more than three times what we pay into the system currently. Riders are naturally worried and find it impossible to see how they can fund this without increasing our already overpriced greenslips by at least 300 per cent,” said Christopher Burns from the NSW Motorcycle Council (MCC).
Despite assurances from the MAA that greenslips will not become more expensive, the NSW Motorcycle Alliance is calling for information from law firm Ernst & Young to be made public, so motorcyclists can be certain they will not be paying more and the true effect of the proposed scheme can be evaluated.

um, why are motorcyclists being singled out?
Compulsory Third Party (CTP) personal injury insurance covers injury caused to third parties when you or the person driving your vehicle is the driver at fault in an accident. Third parties include your passengers and other road users, such as drivers, passengers of other vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, motor cyclists and pillion passengers. Your CTP insurance also covers you for injuries caused through the use of a trailer.
i.e. other people! so if nsw maa is going to be truthful, all ctp except for motorcycle should go up to cover for this!
i am still waiting for a response from the maa u asked 5 years ago; when i asked why the ctp for a 250kg bike pays the same ctp as a 3.2 tonne 4x4, considering the third party damage and injury capabilities and accident history?

if you think this bill wont effect you because "i only ride on the track" or "i only drive a car" well you might as well just lie down and take it in the ass, because thats how you probably like it.. and if you think this wont transgress to cars your dreaming..It will effect us all in the end.
I for one dont want to be the wingeing minority, i wish to be heard and recognised and do something about it ,as im a passoinate rider on the road and track, and if you like your rights and dont want to pay through the nose for your passion, well you should voice up..

been doing some thinking, and stewing over this and have decided to write to my local mp, and the ministers responsible
so after some time, i have found how to find the name of your local state mp
fist you need to know your seat, use
this to find that out, then go
here and scroll down to your electorate; and there is your local creep, complete with contact details.
edit, most mp's are on facebook, maybe worth a post (or 2)
and here is a letter i have (mostly pinched and) put together, fell free to alter it and use it on you local state mp
Dear Mr Doyle,
It has been brought to my attention by a few thousand motorcyclists that your government, with your support, have put legislation forward that proposes to change the CTP insurance scheme.
I am angry that you have proceeded down this path, as the CTP scheme is grossly unfair presently, but these changes will perpetuate and expand these inequities against the poor motorcyclists of Campbelltown.
Have you taken into account the impact of driving motorcyclists off the road?
Motorcyclists are generally a caring sharing group. Have you taken into consideration the effects that this will have on the charity rides that motorcyclists participate in each year? How much will children with serious illnesses lose out on if the charity rides no longer occur.
Why will you as a representative of this government not make a full and transparent disclosure of the audit report undertaken by Ernest and Young.
Every motorcycle you drive off the road with this unfair CTP scheme will be replaced with a car. What impacts will this cause to the road and infrastructure of the greater Sydney region?
What will be the environmental impact of pushing motorcyclists onto other forms of transport such as our already overstretched and underfunded road and rail infrastructure?
What will the effect be on the productivity on the greater Macarthur region by this increase in travel times?
Consider the effect on the M5, Camden Valley Way, Campbelltown Road, Blaxland Road, Raby Road, Appin Road, Narellan Road and any train travel to the city between 5.30 and 10 am. Consider the effect on your constituents having to endure this.
What lobbying has been undertaken for these changes by the insurance companies. Clearly they are the big winners out of your proposed changes.
The number of highly disillusioned motorcyclists is growing, we have all had enough of the CTP rort, and want it changed. We have also had enough of the disinterested and apathetic approach, and money gouging that seems to be coming from every direction of your government towards my fellow motorcycle enthusiasts.
I look forward to hearing from you soon, as do my colleagues in the motorcycling community.
Dick Faber.
