Cam chain replacement

Hi all,
In one of my other posts, I mentioned that I was in the process of doing a cam chain replacement on a mates GSXR750. The last time I did this job, it was quite simple using a joining link.
When the mate went to get the replacement chain he was given an endless chain and told that it needs to be broken, the correct number of links selected then pressed together and the pins somehow re-riveted in situ.

The question is, is this correct and if so, any suggestions, or is it plain bullshit !!!

Sorry to tell you .....it's the truth

A chain breaker/riveter tool can be had from most bike & tool stockists but expect to pay over $100 for one

depends!
is the Gixxer an open chain (like your drive chain)
or a Hyvo type chain..??

the Hyvo can only be put together once and is sold in a length
and Kwaka use these for a lot of their cam chains
they last up to 200,000 klicks and will stand abuse
from a stuffed tensioner

a normal cam chain will last 50,000-100,00 (depends)
and a stuffed tensioner can make it stretch further or jump the
cog on the cam..not nice

cheers

I've split/rejoined a hyvo on my old 250. Was a royal PITA though. Would't try it again though.
