Today was just one of those days

That you pinch yourself and ask......is this really happening.
Back on the night of the asbk Night of Champions Presenetation dinner I was asked by Wayne Hepburn and Shane Kinderis from the Dynotech Maxima BMW Team if I would like to have a go on the teams S1000RR racebikes at a track day.
The original plan was to spend a day at Winton but for many reasons that wasant going to happen until next year. On Friday the 7th while we were at Wakefield Park Shane rang me and asked if I could get the SMP over the weekend of 22-23 December.
Well today I got the ride the bike that holds the FX lap record at SMP along with the No2 bike from this years asbk that has a few more engine mods as allowed by the asbk rules.
Wow, these things are just awesome, I havent been to SMP to ride for more than 8 years so I spend the first of my 3 sessions remembering where the track went, trying to remember the new bit, and riding wit a race pattern gear change for the first time ever
Second session Nelso came out with me but we were cut short twice as people crased on the first flying lap after the out lap, twice, causing two red flags
Third session was great, Nelso came with me again and I tried to use some of the lines he had told me, what a great session and I have to say - unlike the first one - I was disapointed to see the chequerd flag.
First session on the FX bike was good but the second session on the asbk bike was better, even with the mildest engine map they had programmed into the ECU. Third session I asked Shane if he had put the "Nanna map" back in and his response was " no, its got the man map, you'll need to man up and ride like a man"
Fuck me I had a ball.
A massive thanks to the team....Wayne the Team owner, Shane the Crew Cheif and also Glenn and Ben for their tips, I really got the best Christmas present a bike nut could get to day.
Thanbks also to Nelso, that made those two sessions sooo much better, Wattie for his words of encouragement and also to Ray for his sensational photos, a full size one of one of them MUST go direct to the pool room
