I'd say buy a 12r.... but i'm kinda jaded at presnet cause i'm an idiot who buys a sports bike thinking i might be able to get decent fuel economy

hi mate, they are both great bikes and youo really can't go wrong with either.
i had a zx12 and a zx14 at the same time, i got the 12 first and loved it then cos i always loved the 14s i got one of those aswell, both have massive amounts of power i put a 16t front sprocket on both an made a big difference, my 12 was a 2000 and apart from the sprocket change it just had a slip on and i could stand it straight up with no clutch in second ( closed road of course :D ) and run it into 3rd aslong as the road was long enough.

my 14 is a 06 ive had it nearly 2 months and only done slip ons and little things, it isnt as angry down low due to secondary butterflies ( 04 and up 12s also have secondary butterflies aswell i think) but with them out and a tune it should be just as angry down low or maybe more, it pulls a bit harder up high even now though and looks bigger than it rides and handles a abit better, the engine is smoother than the 12, brakes are better, clutch is better an box feels tighter due to no linkage system on lever.

i sold my 12 to my brother becuase he kept hassling me to sell him one and keeping both on the road at the same time would have been painfull but i still enjoy swaping over with him or my dad who also has a 12.

like i said you can't really go wrong with either they are great fun only problem with both is its too easy to lose demerit points. :D :D

good luck.

Ha ha cheers mate,
Yea my brother bought a 12 last night so I have to either out do or match him lol ,he got a 00 is a nice tidy thing but its red -ugh-

I probably about 10 weeks of buying unless the perfect bike pops up I personally like the looks of the 12 better so I might head at an early 12 , also half considering goin all out and getting the 2012 zx14r but I don't want another loan is all lol

Bike Biz in Granville will have this on the lot next week, although I reckon they will be asking a couple of thousand more than they gave me as a trade ;) and the answer to the next question is not telling, yet

Ride both of them. I find the 12 far more comfortable than the 14 as the riding position is cramped and the seat hight too low on the 14.

ha ha, yes i agree the zx14 isn't the prityiest bike around i just am unsure weather the extra 150cc is worth it

i should hopefully be takeing my brothers 12 for a run this weekend, im still a month or 2 off buying my bike but like i said if the right bike for right money pops up i will just have to buy it =p

i do much prefer the look of the 12

piffle,

Youre talking about 3 (including your wish list bike) bikes that imho are among the best in the world,

the 9 is a legend
the 12 is an animal
the 14 is a rabid snarling monster who will cause your retinas to detach.

Ive owned all 3, the 9 is the best to do pretty much anything you damned well please, tour, scratch, coffeeclown, wotEVAH
the 12 isnt quite as good in the corners but considering its size, you can make many an R6 punter with delusions think, did i just get wtfpwned by a land barge?
We all know my stance on 14's now, but in all fairness, it was self inflicted, theyre still a phenomonal motorbike.

One real advantage of one version of the 14 is......shaft drive. And please don't spew any rubbish about extra weight or robbing HP. Bikes nowadays make so much HP (generally speaking),that 3 or 5 won't be missed to spin a shaft, and with materials used ,any extra grams = insignificant. The 'old school' rear end rise and fall when on or off the power has also been largely overcome.

If Kawasaki made a ZRX model with a shaft, I'd dump the chain in an instant. I've previously owned 2 x XS11's- 2x XJ650's and had the loan of an R80 for 8wks,many many moons ago.

Shafties.....I love 'em!! hat36.gif

Thanks for the reply shadow was very good, is there much of a power difference from the 12 the 14 ? I'm hearing power wise they feel similar with a slight edge to the 14

I would like to go something a bit more modern then the 9 this time around every other bike I've owned has been ancient tec, whilst I do love carbie bike I would like to jump to the future and fuel injection :p

But u can pick a good 9 for a absolute steal so I guess I'll have to see,

And on the shaft drives I haven't rode 1 before but would be some thing to consider, is there any thing special matienance wise that the shaft drives require?

Stu, no matter what I did with the electric screen I couldn't find the spot where I was comfy,

Bob, the 12 delivers its power differently, can't really describe it other than it is a lot more tolerant of the mistakes you make, to me, the 14 was like riding with a grenade in my hand with the pin pulled.

Ride all 3, you'll find something you like in all 3, then pick the one that has the most of it :)
