I was wondering what you guys are using. My tracky has an on board lap timer but rather not use as prefer to concentrate on riding.
I like the idea of the gps lap timer but little pricey. As only for use for track days and not comp so can't really justify spending heaps. But like to see how I'm going and if I'm improving.

Just be aware that at PI u cant use them, and i reckon champions are going the same way, as they dont allow videos anymore

Just get a Bluetooth gps unit and hook it To your mobile using race chrono.

Then you hide the gps unit, and stick your phone in your pocket.

Or use your on board one. Pick a spot on the track to hit the lap button each lap

Seriously. I don't get it. Why wouldn't you be allowed to take a timer? How does a timer effect anyone or anything????

Probably an insurance thing for the trackday operator or the owner leasing it to the operator?

i don't like the idea of taking phone with me. But I have seen the other type your talking about. They use the existing dashboard. Has anyone used this type? Anyone sells here in Aust.

Yep, they say because its a rideday, not a timed event.

Buy an old shit phone that I'd capable of running race chrono. Don't even need a sim card for it.

Just checked out their web page. Good stuff wattie. You can use so many old crappy phones. I've got few of those laying around. For $199 you get everything. Then just add phone.

Hey mate,

Ive used a few different options both at PI, broady and Winton.

By far the best is the racechrono with the large screen you can purchase from roost industries http://www.roostindustries.com/gps_lap_timers.php

I've tried the old phone with the bluetooth receiver and racechrono but found it was to inconsistent sometimes it would work no probs sometimes it wouldn't. I think part of the problem was the battery terminals momentarily losing contact and it dropping out but tried lots of ways including duct taping it up but it was still to random for me to be happy. I'd come in from a session thinking it was a good one and their would be no data.

I eventually relented and purchased the screen. I have it mounted on a bracket just inside my fairing and when I go down pit lane I just flick it across like unlocking a iPhone and I can see my laps while riding, it flashes up green if you go quicker through a split.
You can then check all your data, overlay it on someone's lap that is slightly quicker and see where you are losing time etc.

Don't get one that requires a beacon as you basically can't use it anywhere but a race meet.
