130dB ????

mate that is the same sound level as a jumbo taking off !
There is No way in hell that a 130dB limit would ever be seriously considered for aussie bikes.
If the people who knocked up this petition were serious - they would have asked for 94dB or 96dB. The way that sound is measured - its not just a straight 2dB increase between these 2 figures - the formula doubles the *power* of the sound for every 2dB increase.

130dB?? Even though I'm a rider I'll never sign that... It'd be virtually impossible to sleep in and I don't even live on a busy street. Can you imagine the likes of CBR250RRs and Harleys being allowed to be as noise as they wanted to??
102dB would have been plenty... and even then it would be pushing it.

not sleeping in would be the least of your problems after 6 months at 130db you wouldnt hear it anyway if it was coming from under your own ass

Mr Albanese is to raise the current db limit to 130db on all motorcycles/mopeds.
130dB on a moped? That will be one loud wet fart.
GP bike is about 130dB at full sing from 30 meters, a 2 smoke 500 was 113dB.
Even the avid bike lover wouldn't bare with that day in day out.
Doubt the people who created that petition know how sound is measured.

Most harley's already have on there exhaust compliance plate tested at 107db, Some Gixxers also have 103db on theres. It kind of goes against the current laws set by the gumbyment.
Sometimes the Frame VIN plate has it stamped. for E.g. this makes no noise haha

When i was working at the Dyno shop it varied so much between bikes year models brands etc. it seems really random. My old hysoung had 89db on the plate and there was no way it was that quite stock, i think it's just all a load of crap really.

I think the importers do all sorts of bullshit with the noise tests, they gear the bikes up so that at 60kmh from 25m the bike is barely idling as it rides past the sound meter - that sort of thing.
But 107dB is massively loud compared to 96dB.
Thank fuck the ridiculous rule from a few years ago in NSW was repealed - this was the noise-test plate that had to be fixed to every muffler and riders were getting flogged by the RTA in random roadside inspections for having pipes that were too loud - even OEM pipes !!! what a crock of shit that whole episode was.....
