Police have charged two motorcyclists and will confiscate their bikes after being allegedly caught ‘street racing’ north of Sydney yesterday afternoon.
About 3.45pm (Saturday 16 June), highway patrol officers from Kuring-gai Local Area Command spotted the motorcycles travelling south on the Pacific Highway near Cowan at 140kph in an 80kph zone.
Talk about going out in a blaze of glory. Then again if they were "street racing" they'd be going a lot faster. They were probably were on their way home for a hot cuppa tea

......Two motorcyclists have allegedly been caught filming themselves street racing along winding roads north of Sydney.
Highway patrol officers clocked the bikes travelling south on the Pacific Highway near Cowan at 140km/h in an 80km/h zone about 3.45pm (AEST) on Saturday.
They were travelling side-by-side in what police will allege was a form of street race.
Police stopped both bikes and spoke with the two drivers, men aged 49 and 47, and seized a video camera which had been fitted to one of the bikes.
"This type of idiotic behaviour is normally the domain of the young, so it is extremely worrying to see people with years of driving experience act in this manner," said Traffic and Highway Patrol Command's Operations Manager, Superintendent Stuart Smith.
The vision allegedly showed the bikes travelling for more than two kilometres along winding roads at an average speed of 128km/h.
"While they felt the right to use the road as a playground, their actions placed their own lives and those of every other motorist at grave risk," Supt Smith said on Sunday.
The man have been charged with street racing, dangerous driving and exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h.
Their licences have been suspended and police will issue a notice to confiscate both bikes.
The pair will appear at Hornsby Local Court on July 11....

Were they riding 125's?
I'm sure the vacuum created by them passing at such EXTREMELY HIGH SPEEDS sucked all the windows out of passing car's

Ah well, weekend "speeding".
Save it for the weekly commute.

Would be interesting to hear how the court case ends up. I understand 'racing' carries a much higher penalty (vehicle confiscated? etc?), how do they differentiate between racing and simply two riders speeding?

yes one to watch with interest
unofficially the only idiot behaviour is that they stopped, at that age they should have more sense

Of course if they had crossed onto the wrong side of the road and taken out one of the regular Sunday runners I guess we would have a different tone to the thread. Remember yesterday was wet
Time and place, the old road is not the place and a weekend is not the time, even better having the video evidence for the police to confirm the details

Lets see 140 KPH is about 89 MPH. Slow by my 66 year old standards. I was caught in a radar trap going 142 MPH, (not KPH) on highway 40 a couple of years ago and the highway patrolman looked at my age, told me I'm old enough to know better and let me go. I guess these cowboy cops in Utah are not that bad after all. Cheers.

Sounds like they either need faster bikes or the bikes need faster riders
