Theres been some belief that a lot of what is published is not always the truth in relation to some of the data on the bikes.
The weights is always one of them, this year the weigh in was public.!
Actual weights
Aprillia - 208kg
Aprillia factory - 209
BMW - 202
Honda - 204
Kawasaki - 203
Ducati - 192.5
MV - 213.5
Suzuki - 205
Yamaha - 218
Interestingly Kawasaki publish there weight at 201 kg with a tank of fuel, so its pretty close, Yamaha's published figure with a tank of fuel is 206 kg.. there a fair bit out..
I've also heard Mark Willis did a 2.02 on the zx10r at the new EC longer layout.
Lets see what comes out in the mag...

The Ducati is light, 25kgs less than the Yamaha
Takes a lot of horsepower to make up a weight difference like that.

And the Yamaha doesn't have it

What are the sizes of the tanks??? This may make a difference of a kg or two. I think to be fairer the bikes should be weighed fully wet but without fuel. Saying that the ZX10 is very light.

Yamaha has a 35 litre fuel tank and runs a heavier octane fuel

The mags always leave half that kind of info out or put the stats of one bike wet and the other in some other configuration.I'm guessing they are asked by the bike manufacturers to leave it out if its in a duel with a bike that would be "better" in the stats department.
And just as a minor bug bear AMCN had a little brouhaha a couple of months ago over whether to put power figures in Kilowatts or Horsepower and they concluded that they were going to print both but they never do!Drives me nuts because they'll run a comparison and print one with KW and the other in HP.

The Hp v Kw thing has been going on almost forever, but yeah they should do one or the other.
Also standardise the fuel load.
Not that I really care which is "best",the overall difference between them is pretty small .
How many of youse reckon you can ride better than any of those machines. I know i can't!!
I recently crashed my ZRX....how can i ride one of those things angrily.

AMCN....what a basket case it has become....
Since leaving Melbourne, its 1/2 the magazine @ 2x the price...
these days I flip through it at the newsagents and invariably think "thanks, but I'll save the $7.50"

Since leaving Melbourne - it has become *Australian* Motorcycle News. Not Victorian Motorcycle News !! Which is exactly what it was for the 50-odd years before it was finally skull-dragged out of Vic and into Oz !
I have been reading AMCN since the late 70's and have almost every edition from about 1978 onwards, in the 4th Dimension library. I have seen AMCN go through a stack of editors and without doubt KW was the pick of the bunch. I still remember when he did his first 'Wobblers Lines' way back in 1986 ?
But back in those days - you would get a 4-page report on some back-of-West-Bumfuck club enduro out in the Strathbogie Ranges - and a national roadrace title meeting *anywhere else in the country* would be lucky to get 1 or 2 pages - no pics and SFA results !!! Thank Christ we also had REVS Motorcycle News - based in NSW - to provide a balanced report of race meetings held all over the country and not just in Mexico !!

. VMCN as it was known everywhere outside of Victoria - was totally inward looking and gave many many pages of print to the most minor of club gigs down there and SFA for the most part on motorcycle news from anywhere else.
The magazine now runs a pretty balanced review of motorcycle gigs all over the country - which is exactly what it should be doing.
Back to the standard programming - looks like anything under 2 minutes at the new layout is going to be a good time ?
