Dave.. maybe I am missing something but I didnt read that bit about blame in the article not hear it in the coppers comments in the news report
btw... I know this intersection (its only about 2km from my place) and there is a NO UTurn sign there...
as the lane in the middle of the highway is only for RH turns into Turner Rd.(there is a spot marked for UTurns about 250m further north)
Also it is at the top of a rise so anyone doing a RH turn there has very good visibility at traffic coming towards them (up the hill)
100% of the fault to the car in my opinion ...doesn't help the rider though . RIP

Watch the news video...
Its fairly obvious where the police lay blame... No comments about ppl doing U turns in front of motorcycles - only about motorcyclists need to slow down....

IMO the comments about bikes and speeding and the lack of comments about being careful when doing a U-turn (legal or not) show a deliberate bias on the part of the cop and in no way helps to make drivers more bike aware. There was no indication in the article or the video that indicated that the bike WAS speeding.
Without answering the basic question 'Would a MV and rider, doing the speed limit, hit a car with enough force to turn it on it side' the cops comments are way out of line.

Yep, just like that fucking stupid TAC add.
No mention of the clowns doing the Uturn and all blame on the Rider.
Fuck me.....

Um, a bit of common sense would make it clear that the bike was speeding, I havent seen the video but the article stated that the Honda CRV was pushed onto its side by the motorbike! that doesn't happen if the bike is doing 60! Sounds to me like there may be some blame to both parties, but I wasnt there so maybe Im out of line.

think its an 80k zone. CRV's are a bit top heavy and if its turning when its hit might go over easier?
they don't do well at the Nurburgring (about a minute in)

Yep and they get a fair bit of side impact damage at fairly low speed too.
The one in the news story doesn't look anywhere near as bad as the one in the test below..

There is the most logical answer well it makes sense that there is already outwards force on the car in a turn.... That cop needs a slap upside the head for not giving all the facts & getting sidetracked in his bias opinion on all motorcyclists... Fark Him! Fark everything he stands for, he comes across as an elitist cnut!

the highway speed limit there is 80 (..and its 3 lanes either way if that helps)
the bike may have been speeding (no proof either way as I see it) but the cage doing a UTurn at a no UTurn sign is a no-no
(as I well know ..as that was the cause of my last road crash on the bike)

Expect nothing less from vic police ,maybe if they were there they could have instructed the public to make a wall so that the driver couldnt do a u turn.
I am so over the bullshit that goes on down here and the next time a smart ass copper gives me his thoughts he had better be ready to answer some of my questions. It wasnt that long ago that a copper did a u turn over double lines and killed the rider and got nothing. Not in pursuit or anything just decieded to chuck a u turn.
