Hello Gentlemen,
quick question if i might, I am renewing my insurance cover on the mighty ZRX agreed value $10,000, currently with Shannons which is costing me $502 a year with 65% no claim discount, which i think is expensive, my mates ZRX 2004 is costing $354 per year with the same 65%ncd but with QBE, who is paying what and what companies do you think best?

As an aside i have another bike (Z900) lined to the same policy and they are charging me an extra $90 a year for $10,500 agreed cover AND on top of that i just got a quote for a 2011 Speed Triple agreed value of $18000 and would cost $332!!!
SHANNONS HAVE THE REX LISTED AS A SPORTS BIKE....but Speed Triple is apparently considered a Tourer!!!!

Cheers,
A.E.

You and your mate live in the same postcode re the ZRX policy? Same mods listed? How did u go with QBE on a quote then?

Possibly the speed triple being a fairly new model has cheaper available replacement parts and less claims history? I dare say after 2-3 years the agreed value and premium would reflect your rex after adding a pipe etc

Im with Shannons and they cover my trackbike for fire theft etc so between 2 bikes they are competitive but just my roadbike alone Id probably be elsewhere :)

Thanks for the reply firerob, NO my mate is different postcode, his car insurance is nearly 60% dear than same car at my place, i am in a "split post code area" across the river so almost country rates, my car is $180 cheaper my side as opposed to the Penrith side if that makes sense, green slips are $80-$100 cheaper as well.
Like you i have a second bike on the policy which makes it ok (extra $90 year to cover Z900), QBE are $150 odd cheaper, but maybe only that cheap to get the business, i want going to rego the 900 or insure it this year which made me think of changing the ZRX over to someone cheaper, i wanted new wheels for the 900 and some other stuff so would hav been off the road anyway but i WEAKENED and cant stand not riding it so its re-regod and i guess re-insured shortly with Shannons again.

Its interesting how they look at a Speed Triple versus the Rex, they just rand me back (Shannons) and have dropped a massive $40 off the combined price of two bikes (was $593, now $553), Shannons reckon its not claim history or parts prices but i reckon you are right....a lot more rex's have bit the dust than Speed Triples i guess, although according to FCAI Triumph and Kwak have sold similar numbers of each up til 2008 so you'd think similar numbers would have gone to God! I am going to shop them anyway just to see a couple more quotes from some others, pity we couldnt get some more input from our brethren on here to compare the possibilities.........i mean we should have strength in numbers ay?

Have a good one,
A.E.

My ZRX costs around $600 a year to insure with Insure my ride.

The policy covers riding gear and personal electronics.

My 2007 ZX6 is $93 per quarter. Full comp. I think that's a pretty good price.

All i'm going to say is dont fall into the same trap Eric did, took the cheaper option and saved a few $ in his premium, then got penalised in a major way when he got taken out.

Yes I may pay a little more in my premium, I have also been in the situation that I was taken out and got what I needed to replace the bike - and more. Makes it worthwile then.

My $0.02 worth ;)

Exactly what Phil said go agreed value and pay that little bit extra, in the end I found QBE very good to deal with and have stuck with them for my Z1000 which is agreed value, never going market value again, have heard a few people getting disenchanted with Shannons over their premiums.
If life is like a box of chocolates, why do I always get the laxettes?

I am OK with my premuim from Shannons, then again I have a few vehicles insured with them so get a good multi policy discount ;)

Yeah I think that those who have a few vehicles seem to ge a better all round price, most of the disenchanted only have the one or 2 vehciles to insure

Thanks for all the replies Gents, i decided to keep the Z900 regod for another year so will be sticking with Shannon's and insureing both, total cost has come down with some negotiating after Shannons agreed that they have the Zrx in wrong category, its now a "sports tourer" NOT a "sports bike" !!! Zrx agreed value $10000.00 and total cost of $467.00, Z900 agreed value $10500 and total additional cost of $89.70 per year, Speed triple is also considered a "sports tourer" and with an agreed value of $18000.00 is still $332 per year (all with 65% no claim discount!), pity i dont own a speed triple, not yet anyway!

Merry Christmas,
Angry.

One of my mates owns a Speed triple and he recons my bike (ZRX) is far better so stick with the big Z. Anyway the triple is missing a cylinder.
