ALL things concidered (drive train, clutch, fork seals, legality, safety, public reputation, motorcycle ambassadorship, tyre wear, etc, etc.....)
Do YOU think that doing wheelies is "correct" or "not"?????
in light of all the "idiots on bikes" antics of late, and a few ppl saying that they like to "see them".... i wanted to ask what the consensus was.

all answered are based around no it's not but only out in the sticks... doesn't make for much of a fair poll really..

we know neka's happy to try and stack it anywhere... I'm happy to Vote NO though... I can't even remember the last time i got my front wheel up on my 6...

I reckon it's fine as long as you're not in a built up area or right behind another bike/cage.

I voted all of the above and in front of the Saturday night crowd. Purely for the fact that i will do one in most places, as long as i'm not puting me or someone else in danger. Ie cars in front of me, crowded areas etc.

If i have an open road in front of me, i'll pop the farker up.

I'm getting better too, pulled my best wheelie on Saturday. Rode out first and second, before she eased her way down. I usually find that when i grab second, she starts easing down (obviously not enough revs or speed for the gear) Felt very nice. Couldn't replicate it all day though.

But i will say this. It's like all stunts, do it at your own risk, cause they do have a habit of going wrong.

I'm all for a good minger in the right place,but how about with a pillion?
Bikes do after all wheelie alot better with a pillion.
Seven years ago coming back from the Island me and my riding buddy arrived at an accident which had only just had happened.Coming out of Bega town centre someone on a new GSXR had flipped it with his missus on the back.She was a mess,and her screams and wailing will remain with me forever,the ambulance took 40 minutes to arrive,it was a horriffic scene we all just felt totally useless as we comforted her at the side of the road.I'll never forget the pilot ,un-hurt thanks to his full racing suit but mentally he was a mess too,unable to help us with missus and to view his handy work.
i'll always remember his face,the realisation on his face of what he'd just done,it hard home with me and i really felt for him,he'd been an idiot and was paying the full price,plus GST.
My riding buddy too was rather distubed by the whole event,he was riding a tricked-up 1200 Bandit and had spent most of the journey on one wheel up until that point.From Bega back to Sydney his front wheel never left the deck once.A month later he sold the Bandit and bought a trail bike .....
I'm not sure if there is a moral to my little story but there is certainly alot to learn from it,i know i did.

given I have a fair amount of mechanical sympathy
its usually something I only do a few times when I first get a bike
and then knowing I can
...don't bother again
and
I only ever do it out in the sticks or the industrial estate
away from other traffic

Personally, if saw any moron doing a wheelie in a clearly dangerous manner I would happily confront them with a public accusation of intellectual inadequacy. Conversely a wheelie performed properly in the safest possible way deserves the applause and adulation of all who witness it. But I do think that saying "its OK to pop a wheelie only when it is safe" is kind of redundant.

I voted for the second option only because that's the only place I've ever done them myself...I'm not very good at them and it's better to practice away from the jeers and taunts of your peers

Very strong story nick... wheelies, stoppies, are fun thing to do, but they do come at the price sometimes. I'm lucky enough to have tried both (nothing big), had fun and moments, and to decide not to do them again... just too pricey/painful when things go wrong...

There are heaps of bike stunt accidents, and these guys are supposed to be really good/experienced. I am nowhere as good as them and WILL stack it one way or another. Not interested to see bone sticking out from my legs yet...

And that was done on closed roads in a strictly controlled environment too. And he wouldn't do them up the main drag at Halls gap either
