If you really want to be proactive then skip MB and instead go to local MP's. In the last byelection the liberal candidate stood with the number 1 promise to fix Melbourne Lancefield rd with overtaking lanes and dual carriageway....which it desperately needs. So if you feel like taking action then contact Joanne Duncan the local MP and voice your oppinions towards her.
I have personaly had experience with this road and was hit head on at 100km whilst driving a work vehicle back in 05. Believe me Hilux's are not unbreakable.
As for the Preston incident there are too few details to comment.

MB just posted a link to the letter they sent to the minister. I've been at a meeting they spoke at and they seem straight (but it probably doesn't hurt business)

After spending a week in Victoria earlier this year I was appalled at the state of driving of a majority of people. I know people say Sydney is pretty crap but in all seriousness Victoria - and Melbourne especially - was just a joke, it seriously is as I told my family, "the shit driving capital of Australia"

Sad, but not surprising.

Sadly, having lived in the following cities, this is how I rate them.

Best to worst.

Sydney- Aggressive, fast, but decisive.
Melbourne - Unpredictable, sometimes hog right hand lanes, use one lane when there is two, use two lanes when there is one. But drive at the speed limit mostly
Perth - Slow, right lane hoggers, but the low traffic volume allows access around the snarls.
Brisbane - Slow, like really slow. take half an hour to make a decision. Hog the right hand lane worse than all of the above.
Adelaide - Archaic. Dead stopped is the fastest they go all while hogging the right hand lane. THE WORST drivers in the country that I have experienced.

I have not lived in Hobart, but fund it OK to get around apart from slow drivers.

I've never seen so many mobile phone drivers as I have here
They sit 5 kph below the speed limit everywhere.....except when it rains, then they all sit 10-20 kph above it!
Still, the Hills make up for it all

You all have not visited Utah. I moved here because I have an IQ of 72 and I'm now in the top 10%. The drivers here are either texting or reading their bible. When it snows they go faster. They are designing a new cell phone just for Utahns, it's 3 inches long, about an inch in diameter and round. You stick it up your arse. Very handy when your driving. Cheers, Jim Time.

I am working at Monegeeta defence base currently this accident happened like 5 minutes up the road, ute overtaking a truck, hits the motorcyclist and it's all over, 28 years old, single parent, we took a collection up for his kid today at the Lancefield run.

They are working on Melbourne-Lancefield rd incidentally, but they're sticking W beams and WRB along it, no sign of any dual carriageway anytime soon...

Thats the way, some WRB and crack down on this pricks with fender eliminators....that'll sort everything out.
