THE OTHER BIKE

Well after my last track day on the 17th of dec, i decided im not fit
Was a stinking hot day, but thats no excuse, after having a look at the video footage my mate took from the hill, i realized im unfit, body position was wrong, and as the session's went on, i could see from the footage i was getting lazy on the bike...
So with that for motivation, on the monday i got the mountain bike out, after 5 years sitting in the shed, dusted it off and jumped on.
the plan is to pound the backroads around home, till im fitter.
As im on holidays, im getting out early, 6ish, doing about 30 km, in the morn then the same in the afternoon, ive allready added a few extra km to that after 10 days...
The plan is to do about 50/60 km per day,7 days a week, so when i go back to work next week, it will be arvo's only.
Yesterday i started kayaking as well,as i live 200m from the bay, to good a op to miss.
Allso starting tomorro i will be doing the thousand steps at ferntree gully.
So all going well, by the 28 jan, i should be a little fitter, will be interesting to see how much better i feel by the end of the day.

Sounds like you will be rooted at the end of the day :P
Just kiddin.Good luck with it.Main thing is don't go in too hard first up.That 50-60ks is that mainly flat?I try to ride to work occasionally. My problem is i leave it too long in between and its a struggle getting the legs working again.

Been ok, so far, and yep its flat out here, but i did find some dirt trails this morn with some hills, that gets the legs burning, that and riding on the dirt, so far ive been pulling up ok.
Yer, thats why im getting out every day, to keep fresh, so to speak.
The run in the kayak yesterday hurt, went out a bit, than the breeze blew up, and had to paddle like hell to get back, felt sore last night, but woke up good, so all goin well so far
Way to far for me to ride to work, round trip is a 100km

Cycling alone will increase your aerobic fitness and burn fat in the short term. Problem is that you loose muscle in the process and you will have to increase intensity and duration to maintain that same aerobic level and the amount of calories lost.

Think about adding resistance training (anaerobic exercise) into the mix (aka weights or some other form of body weight exercises) this increases strength, muscle mass & burns more fat. It will get your heart rate up but not to the extent of aerobic exercise.

If you take a look at some of the pro racers they incorporate both aerobic and anaerobic exercise.

That an no cheese burgers, kebabs and only alcohol when they win!

Cheer's for that,
The plan was to get my endurance up, so will keep adding km to the ride... but ive been getting, u need to do this, u need to do that, from the girlfriend who was a personal trainer for 20 years, so u can imagine what im getting, as i smoke!! 5/6 cigs a day, and dont eat well,, i share a house with 2 mates...
This is from a 49 year old woman that does the hell ride 3 times a week, and does the 1,000 steps not once, or twice, or three times but four times a day!!!! sometimes with 20kg weights in a back pack, so she's giving me heaps of support, but giving me heaps as well!!!
The good thing is at 6ft 3in and 80kg, im not carring any excess weight. but i am 50... O the things we do for our track days.... and yep im into pushup, situps as well now... and yep im hurtin..........
But im not giving up the odd ouzo or more :) :)

Sounds like your a man on a mission. Given that regime you should feel physically fit in about 4 weeks but give it about 6 weeks to see some decent results. I personally run a fair bit to keep my fitness. I do 10km fun runs and typically run about 20-30km per week.

One good thing about being fit is that you dont need to drink much for the alcohol to hit you. A bottle of bourbon usually lasts a few weeks :P

Yer, that last track day killed me....wasnt happy, so this is giving me motivation.
I should'nt run as ive had my back broken, twice, once when i was 20, the other time was a work accident, did my t5,t6 t7 t8, so a low impact workout is the go, but yer, i really want to get fitter, and hoping it will help with lap times, well that's the plan. will see how much this is helping come the 28th of jan??

Yer... well i pulled her apart today, Knew what the prob is, plug leads have corroded, and do u think i can find any!! none of the stores, as in supercheap, repco ect sell leads by the length anymore, let alone the size i need.
So anyone got any idea's on where to get them.
As there a push in fit, i only need the ing lead, so i will cut to size.
Not doing the ebay thing, just someone in melbourne who sells lead by the length??

Just got back from ferntree gully, did the 1,000 steps with kazz, all two and a half hours of it.
The walk from the bottom carpark is 1km up hill, before u get to the steps, then up we went, once at the top, no rest, as kazz pushes very hard, then back down, and thats not as easy as it sounds!!! at the bottem she asked how i was, ok i said... bad move, because then it was back up ot the top again, this time on the long hill, and i mean long... had a few quick stops on the way up that!! then no rest she said, so back down the hill.
All up it was great, im stuffed now, but im sure by late this arvo i will be ok for my pushy ride...
Must say tho, i am enjoying this... roll on the 28th
